STV Engineering uses VMware Horizon along with NVIDIA GRID technology to deliver high performance 3D graphics performance to its workers. They use desktop virtualization to comply with their security policy when dealing with external workers and also use desktop virtualization in case workers are unable to come to the office due to a natural disaster such as what they experienced with Hurricane Sandy in 2012.
"Like many organization we have security concerns and compliance concerns we need to abide by. VDI allowed us to bring the data to one central location housed within STV, so we could provide access to external stakeholders. No matter where the client was, we knew where the data would be."

TELUS Communications Company
Keeping customers satisfied is critical to business success. With business lines and subscribers growing, TELUS wanted to expand its customer support services using offshore workers while maintaining its reputation for delivering excellent customer experiences. Facing cost and security concerns, IT looked to a high-performance and flexible virtual desktop solution to support workloads moving offshore. IT looked to VMware. Today, VMware desktop virtualization securely and reliably delivers the same customer support applications used by its Canadian call center employees to offshore call center partners worldwide. A staff of just five IT workers supports the VMware Horizon View deployment, which has more than doubled in four years to nearly 3,000 concurrent users and 5,000 unique desktops.
“I would recommend VMware Horizon View for a virtual desktop service. We’ve looked at a lot of different virtual desktop services over the years and I believe that the architecture of the Horizon View service provides the most flexibility in delivering services to customers.”
School at Singapore-based higher education institute has launched one of ASEAN’s largest Horizon View projects to allow students to learn anywhere using any device. The project has also enabled the school to reduce the costs and management involved in delivering desktops, and minimize its datacenter expenditure and environmental footprint.
The Hut Group
Cloud Based Disaster Recovery is Changing how VMware Customers do Business
Have you ever wondered how a comprehensive disaster recovery strategy could be implemented in the cloud? What applications can you protect in the cloud? Can you simplify your environment at a lower cost? What are the core benefits achieved as a result of implementing disaster recovery in the cloud, verses an on-premises solution? On March 25th, 2015 8.00 am PST, we hosted a Google+ Hangout event featuring VMware experts and our customers as they provide a technical deep-dive into the VMware vCloud Air Disaster Recovery service. They shared some of the challenges they faced as well as best practices for solutions to those challenges and ways the service has helped their various businesses.
“The cost difference between doing it yourself versus hosting it on VMware was really something that was attractive to us. And it only took us about six months from the day I joined The Hut Group to the day that we were able to stand up and test a fully functioning website. We never failed a production but we were able to replicate the full production databases out of the full production website and to do that within 6 months makes me feel very good but it also gave the executives comfort that they knew that we now had a solution which would be useful and known when we came to have a disaster.”
The Hut Group
Hut Group deploys VMware vCloud Air for more scalable, flexible and secure environment
The Hut Group is the UK’s leading, multi-website online retailer with rapidly growing international operations. The company’s websites are a crucial part of the business and need to be kept up and running at all times. The Hut Group is therefore using vCloud Air to make sure it’s infrastructure is flexible and scalable – giving the IT team the ability to get more capacity during peak periods and to reduce it down during quieter periods, so that customers have the same responsiveness and experience even when the sites are at their busiest.
“(DRaaS) enables us to grow faster than we are growing currently, and really enables us to be more efficient and flexible in what we are doing. Instead of having to keep two different data centers up and running, to ensure there is an up or down, or cold or hot data center, this enables us to ensure that it is the efficiency that we gain by only having to do the exercise once.”

TiAuto (Pty) Ltd.
Full visibility, improved performance and ability to further sweat IT assets
TiAuto was looking for a system that would enable it to deploy a charge back functionality across all of its seven divisions. It needed a system that would give the IT team a view of what each department was running, how much hardware they were using and in short summarize if the systems / servers it had in place were in fact healthy. After rolling out vSOM, the company had an instant view of its some 120 virtual machines and the benefits to the business were immediate as the TiAuto IT department could instantly identify which machines hadn’t been provisioned properly as well as where there was fault or capacity in its systems which could then be optimized.
“vSOM has been fantastic for the business as we can now benefit from adding more virtual machines on what we already have as we can resize our existing environment without running the risk of oversizing the storage. From a management perspective IT can now provide our executive team a visual report that shows them exactly how much hardware we use across the group. It goes as granular as defining what each hardware component is doing and in turn we can justify what we need and can qualify each infrastructural investment.”
