La Cite is the largest French community college in Ontario with 5,000 students enrolled in over 90 programs. A variety of these programs require 3D graphics and computer labs, such as Civil and Mechanical Engineering, Architecture, and Interior Design. The college decided to virtualize desktops because the current workstations were aging. The price to replace those workstations was roughly the same as going to virtualization. La Cite chose Dell, NVIDIA, and VMware to deliver virtual desktops to these labs which resulted in reduced login times and more flexibility for both students and faculty.
“Virtualization helps me greatly when I’m preparing my classwork at home. I can quickly access the virtualization and see what the application looks like and prep my work around the same image that the students are using.”
La Cité has implemented virtual desktops to deliver engineering and design applications with advanced 3D graphics to its student computer labs. Deployed with VMware, Dell, and NVIDIA technology, the solution provides workstation-level performance on a flexible and cost-effective mix of repurposed legacy desktops and new zero-client machines. It also expands student and faculty access to important applications and greatly reduces system management and administration workloads.
“When I’m preparing my class work at home, I can quickly access a virtual workstation and see exactly the same image the students are using. When I walk into class, I just reconnect and I’m ready to teach.”
La Salle Primary School
La Salle Primary School, based in Hong Kong, build a mobile learning platform using VMware Virtual SAN and VMware Horizon.
La Salle Primary School is leading the way for integrating IT with teaching in Hong Kong. They are enabling every student to use mobile learning on different devices and platforms with the help of VMware virtualization solutions like VMware Horizon View and VMware Virtual SAN.
La Salle Primary School chose VMware Virtual SAN technology to centrally manage storage for their servers alongside the VMware Horizon solution to deploy virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI), saving significant hardware costs and footprint as well as the workload on internal IT and technical support staff. They now have a true VDI environment where students can smoothly and reliably access a common virtual environment and set of applications whether they are on campus computers or on their PCs and mobile devices.
“Compared with traditional server storage methods, VMware’s Virtual SAN technology can bring us higher cost efficiency, stability and ease of management.”
"We are no longer need to install required software or applications on each computer. This has in turn reduced memory and storage consumption, significantly reducing the burden on the school in terms of hardware. Equally important is that it has reduced the workload of our technical support staff and set a positive example in energy saving and sustainable development for our students.”

Linxdatacenter is constantly evolving in response to the growing needs of clients. Linxdatacenter decided to extend the portfolio of services provided to clients and to introduce Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) based on the FlexPod platform. The current and prospective clients, who are using typical ICT and collocation services, gained an opportunity to rent comprehensive virtual environments – a virtual data center. In practice this means that, with access to processing capacity, RAM and significant disk space, they are able to create and manage virtual servers on their own. The entire hardware solution is managed by VMware vCloud Suite 5.1 products.
“Clients want to make sure that their data is secure and they want to know where exactly the data is stored. LinxCloud meets both of these requirements. Our service, also called “the private cloud”, enables our clients to process and store data on a secure platform and at the same time reduce the costs of hardware and software administration and maintenance. Also, the cloud allows for flexible and immediate adjustment of the hardware platform performance to meet the current needs of the company. The same rule applies to software, which does not need to be bought. You can pay for its use in the same way you pay for electricity consumption. Such an option is much more affordable compared to the traditional licensing model”.
