The Mecklenburg County technical services team chose to deploy VMware Horizon View—over Citrix and Microsoft solutions—to securely mobilize and empower nearly 6,000 county employees. As part of the North Carolina county’s “One Person, One Device” initiative, executives, Youth and Family Services social workers, Park and Recreation employees, and Food Service inspectors use tablets and virtual desktops to securely access and input information on the go. Now more productive employees better reach and serve constituents while saving the county an average of $3.2 million per year.
"The benefits of using VMware Horizon View are in hardware cost and time savings. It equals out to be about $3.2 million savings per year for the organization. That's money that we can put back into services for the citizens of Mecklenburg County."

In this video, we hear from Sam Routledge, Solutions Director at Softcat, about how the solutions provider and reseller has been enabling its customers to move towards private and hybrid cloud and the Software-Defined Data Center with VMware.
"We work with VMware because they are really the standard in infrastructure virtualization. We had really really good times with them over the years. Our customers think it’s fantastic, the products rock solid, rarely any issues & by and large our customers just want to do more with VMware and with virtualization which is obviously great for us."
Cork Institute of Technology
Cork Institute of Technology (CIT) is a Third level college based in the south of Ireland in Cork. The challenges they were looking to address in CIT was in relation to the online delivery of cloud computing courses. VMware View allowed them to deploy virtual desktops to the students and also they choose vCloud Director Product to deploy labs to students as well. Since these students use their own vAPP; with vCloud director, the vAPPs are segregated and they are isolated from other vAPPS so they can manipulate these tools, test these tools and not affect the network surrounding.
"We have been forging industry links with VMware and we had worked quite closely with VMware in developing cloud computing academic programmes and it was through these links and through the positive experience we had with VMware products previously that we decided to choose VMware View as the desktop deployment solution and vCloud Director."
Mansfield District Council
VMware helped the Mansfield District Council to swiftly migrate its PCs and laptops from Windows XP to Windows 7, while at the same time providing a more flexible and secure working environment.
“After assessing the options available VMware Horizon View was the clear choice for us as it addressed all our business concerns, including mobility, cost control and migrating to Windows 7 in one go. It delivers a flexible infrastructure, streamlines operations and is easy to use. Phoenix Software was also a great team to work with and we couldn’t have asked for a more efficient and helpful partner at this time.”
Fuji Keizai Co, Ltd.
To improve the security of sensitive data on its servers, Japanese market research company Fuji Keizai implemented a thin-client environment back in 2008. However, there were considerable issues around managing the thin clients and further problems supporting mobile devices. After exploring all options, the company switched to a VMware Horizon View client environment with support for multiple device types.
"VMware Horizon View is optimised for use in virtual desktop environments, and it also meets our needs by providing integrated management tools and full support for mobile devices."
SSOE Group is an Engineering, Procurement and Construction Management firm with 1200 employees located in 29 offices across 7 countries. SSOE leverages the best talent that they have to complete client projects no matter where that talent is located and this requires global collaboration in a 3D environment. SSOE selected a solution utilizing VMware Horizon View, Cisco, and NVIDIA to deliver the 3D graphics performance required from applications such as Autodesk Revit to complete projects in a virtualized desktop environment.
"I’d absolutely recommend the Cisco Invidia VMware Horizon View solution to other companies who are using graphically intensive applications. It's the best of all possible worlds. With Cisco you're getting the hardware, reliability, performance, price point. With Invidia, the graphics acceleration, simply unmatched in a solution like this. And obviously VMware Horizon View is producing the capability for me to get a global work force collaborating in one location, using disparate people from anywhere."

Aledo Independent School District (ISD)
For years, the IT team at Aledo Independent School District (ISD) managed thousands of standalone desktops across multiple campuses, laboriously updating software on a machine-by-machine basis. By virtualizing approximately 75 percent of its machines on the VMware Horizon View virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI), the district has vastly simplified IT management and streamlined online test administration while enhancing the end user’s experience.
"I would go into a computer lab, install software on 30 machines, connect to the server 30 times, and so on,” she says. “Then every summer, we’d send out a whole crew of IT folks to go computer by computer, cleaning up machines and doing general maintenance. It was incredibly time-consuming."
Gangnam Severance Hospital
By moving to a VDI environment based on VMware View, GSH was able to comply with new data security requirements and improve mobile access to medical information, without requiring costly hardware upgrades.
"We tested old PCs with a view to minimising our procurement spend – and to our surprise, we found no significant performance difference between these and new machines in a VDI environment. So we were able to reduce expenses by continuing to use the current equipment."
NTT Neomeit deploys, maintains and manages IT infrastructure for customers throughout the West Japan region. Desktop virtualization is a key part of its roadmap for improving security and management efficiency. However, the virtualization solution that the company initially selected failed to deliver the expected performance and stability, and was therefore jettisoned in favor of VMware Horizon View. The combination of VMware’s proven technology and comprehensive support has resulted in huge performance and stability gains, and significant reductions in operating costs
“With the support of VMware, we completely re-engineered our virtual desktop infrastructure. This delivered major improvements in performance and stability, resulting in a stress-free working experience for our users.”
St Edmund’s College
St Edmund’s College needed to increase the efficiency and reliability of its IT estate, while enabling a new BYOD solution for pupils and teachers within the school. Using VMware software, the school has virtualized 95% of its servers and 70% of its desktop PCs, providing a new, central platform for managing IT.
“We’re really excited by what VMware’s technology has brought to St Edmund’s College. By giving pupils the opportunity to use their own devices, the children have become much more engaged within lessons and are able to experience new ways of working. Being able to access the school network from home or within the boarding houses is also allowing them to become more efficient and independent learners. Alongside this, we’ve also seen some significant cost and environmental savings for the school through increased energy efficiency and reduced maintenance costs.”
