EMC Documentum for Life Sciences Regains Its Competitive Edge with VMware vCloud Air
The EMC Documentum for Life Sciences sales force could not always effectively compete, because it took them several weeks to deploy a proof of concept while it took their competitors much less time. In addition, EMC sales engineers had to spend valuable time creating and managing demos. By hosting the EMC Documentum for Life Sciences solution on VMware vCloud® AirTM, EMC now creates and deploys their demo and proofs of concept environments in just a few minutes, and offers tighter security and better performance, both competitive differentiators.
EMC Documentum for Life Sciences helps accelerate product discovery and development. It streamlines and secures information and provides a flexible, secure, powerful and automated information infrastructure essential to speed processes governing research, clinical trials and GMP while reducing cost and complexity. The solutions consist of modules for research and development, clinical trials, regulatory submissions, and manufacturing to provide critical compliance with various global governmental oversight entities such as the FDA. EMC Documentum is the industry standard for regulated document management with more than 75 percent of leading life sciences enterprises relying on EMC Documentum solutions.
"VMware vCloud Air levels the playing field, making EMC as agile as our competitors. We simply can’t compete without it."
EPAM centralised infrastructure management in the first phase of the development process aiming at the establishment of an IT environment that would adapt more flexibly to business requirements. In the second phase of the developments in the summer of 2006, EPAM Systems decided to virtualise the development and test environments established for the projects. Thanks to VMware-based virtualisation, we are able to set up the development environment of a starting project several magnitudes faster, just under 1 hour instead of several days or weeks. The other big advantage of virtualisation is that development managers can take a snapshot of the environment before testing a new version or service pack of the software under development or before verifying the version compatibility of a new database manager. EPAM in recent years has achieved two-digit growth in revenues and employed staffs - which are also reflected in the cost of IT.
„The snapshot function of VMware provides a high degree of security for development work. Using this system, it is faster and easier to test our software and we are able to provide an even higher standard of service to our customers. While our earlier infrastructure may have limited this process, our virtualised environment has become the drive behind our business.”
Nuno Fernandes, IT Architect, eWorld Limited discusses how their customers truly appreciate the benefits of vCenter Operations Management, providing a really good bird’s eye view about what is happening on the whole datacentre in terms of resources, failures and what if scenario modelling. He also explains how being a VMware and HP partner helped them to grow as an organisation, being known and being very respected partner about integrated solutions in Malta.
ExecuJet Aviation Group
The ExecuJet Aviation Group is a global business aviation organisation, offering a diverse range of services, including aircraft sales, management and charter. ExecuJet runs four data centres in Johannesburg, Capetown, Zurich and Dubai that underpin the IT for the entire organisation. The South African data centre desperately needed to upgrade a large amount of legacy infrastructure, and the company decided to consolidate its server infrastructure using VMware. Following their successful server virtualisation project, the management team got fully behind the IT team to explore the benefits of implementing a virtual desktop infrastructure. They looked into a number of options, but due to our great experiences with VMware and the range of features on offer, they choose to implement VMware View. By using VMware View, ExecuJet employees are now able to run Windows 7 from any internet-enabled device.
“Dealing with highly discerning clients means we have to be at the cutting edge of service and innovation. Being able to use Windows 7 on tablet devices with the help of VMware View has drastically increased flexibility and improved working practices across the board - from sales executives to pilots to maintenance engineers, all of which helps us deliver the best service possible to our customers.”
Discover why Exostar switched to VMware and how they've improved capacity and performance management with vCenter Operations Management Suite
"It's critical that everyone understands at any given point and time how operations are running. Whether we have issues, and if we do have issues, what the next steps are. vCenter Operations Manager gives us that insight"
Exostar Uses VMware NSX for Security & Automation
By separating networking and security functions from the underlying topology, Exostar is seeing the benefits in security, automation, and application continuity that were previously unreachable without VMware NSX.
“So we chose NSX over the competitors such as Cisco, ACI, simply because of market adoption. NSX has gained much more momentum in the marketplace and seems to have broader acceptance by the partner ecosystems than the competitors that are coming up.”

Fastweb taps into new market opportunities, achieving 100% ROI within the first year while reducing the Total Cost of Ownership of Virtual Desktops with VMware Horizon Air
With revenues in excess of €1.5m and nearly two million customers, Fastweb is the largest alternative operator of fixed-line telecommunications and ICT solutions in Italy. Fastweb delivers business value added services such as cloud computing, security and converging communications to residential and business customers.
“Previously, when a customer asked for virtual desktops, we would need to set up their own physical infrastructure and configure the necessary software, which was very costly and time intensive; so much so that many SMBs could not see the financial advantage of virtual desktops. However by delivering through VMware Horizon Air we can provide desktops ‘on-demand’ with businesses only paying for what they need and when they need it. Multi-tenancy is a must for successful cloud delivery and partnering with VMware therefore became essential to achieving this.”
This Federal Government customer wanted to reduce complexity by utilizing a solution that integrates natively with their VMware vSphere® environment. They also wanted to improve the reliability and consistency of recovering critical applications like Microsoft Exchange and SQL Server. They found vSphere Data Protection Advanced very easy to use and noted that they could meet the needs of their application owners, providing granular backup and object-level recovery.
“vSphere Data Protection Advanced gave us a reliable solution to back up critical data while being easy to learn and deploy. It reduced storage requirements as well.”

Fuji Keizai Co, Ltd.
To improve the security of sensitive data on its servers, Japanese market research company Fuji Keizai implemented a thin-client environment back in 2008. However, there were considerable issues around managing the thin clients and further problems supporting mobile devices. After exploring all options, the company switched to a VMware Horizon View client environment with support for multiple device types.
"VMware Horizon View is optimised for use in virtual desktop environments, and it also meets our needs by providing integrated management tools and full support for mobile devices."
