A Flexible And Powerful Virtual Infrastructure Based On VMware vSphere Essentials, That Is Cost-Efficient And Easy To Manage

“VMware vSphere Essentials will change the way you think about servers, infrastructure and what you can do with information technology. It allows you to save on hardware costs and serverdeployment time, and lets you set up test environments on the fly. Because it makes everything easier and cheaper, vSphere will definitely change your world.”

— Mike Garcia, Information Technology Manager

Central Clearing House and Depository (Budapest) Ltd. (KELER ZRT.)

The clearing house started a project in 2009 with the title KIÚT (KELER Infrastructure Redesign) with the goals of consolidating the IT environment, increasing its availability and flexibility, achieving supplier-independence and reducing the total cost of ownership (TCO). According to its business mission and vision, KELER is intending to provide continuous competitive and client-focused services, active utilisation of business opportunities, flexible management of changes and effective operations. The higher reliability, flexibility achieved through the VMware-based virtualisation of the server environment, the higher efficiency of testing and easier monitoring, accountable working operations are all indispensable for achieving these goals and putting the company philosophy into practice. For example, this server environment allowed KELER to provide services available through the web (e.g. online ISIN code issuance), but also enables the planned introduction of the document management system and the switchover to using e-accounts.

“The reliable working operation called forth by the VMware-based virtualisation of our server environment is now simply indispensable in achieving our business goals set out in our enterprise strategy."

— András Katkó, IT Director, KELER ZRT.

Challenger

Implementing a dual-cluster VMware infrastructure at less than one-third the cost of a physical disaster recovery environment enabled Challenger Limited to cut recovery time objectives from 24 hours to less than 4 hours and recovery point objectives from 24 hours to less than 90 minutes.

"Implementing VMware has enabled us to slash our recovery time and recovery point objectives, ensuring core applications and critical information are quickly recoverable in the event of a datacenter disaster."

— John Havranek, Head of IT, Infrastructure

Charles River Laboratories International, Inc.

Charles River Labs virtualized business critical help desk application that typically handles 100-200 tickets per day. First application to prove concept of public cloud deployment of business critical applications. Business impact was mainly for Capex reduction: capping internal datacenter spending and to deploy new systems on the public cloud & migrate others over the next few years. Able to co-exist with existing VMware environment and taking existing apps to public cloud without re-writing.

“I see Cloud being key to our overall strategy moving forward. The days of us investing heavily all of our capital into building hardware and infrastructure are past now. With the options that are available now from cloud partners, they bring agility, flexibility and in some case cost savings as well, for using that model.”

— Steven Spiers, CTO

“For me virtualization is a no brainer, really, any company that has an IT department has an IT budget, and it is an absolute shame to waste any part of that budget which is what will happen if virtualization is not considered”

— Georges Khairallah, Network Specialist

Chittenden Bank

Chittenden Bank Prepares To Grow Its Business— Not Its IT Staff—With Virtualization

“Our ‘go-to’ environment is a virtual platform based on VMware technology and Intel processors. We look at an application and decide why it shouldn’t be virtualized, rather than why it should.”

— Doug Nelson, Network Engineer

Choice Hotels International, Inc.

VMware's Software-Defined Data Center at Choice Hotels. Choice Hotels International leverages VMware's Software-Defined Data Center architecture by implementing vCloud Suite Enterprise to optimize capacity, ensure business continuity and disaster recovery, and shorten the time to provision infrastructure and applications.

City of Boston

Use VMware Infrastructure And VMware View To Save Money, Time And Energy

“We sometimes walk people through our datacenter, show them all the empty racks, and say, ‘This is what virtualization has done for us.’ Before we started using VMware Infrastructure, those racks were full. It’s a powerful way of making the point that that you don’t need to buy a server every time you need one. Instead, you can license VMware for a robust infrastructure of virtual machines that give you as much or more computing power as physical servers.”

— David Nero, Director of Infrastructure and Technology

City of Cockburn

VMware virtualization enables the City of Cockburn to centralize management and administration while reducing capital and operating expenses and lowering greenhouse gas emissions.

“Deploying VMware virtualization has enabled us to reduce our total cost of ownership and limit our desktop risks while maintaining user service levels within our buildings and improving remote access.”

— Jeff Jones, Manager, Information Services

Clal Insurance Holdings

"The server farm has become 100% virtual. All the Windows or Linux based servers run on VMware vSphere. We have 500 virtual servers. Actually, for all intents and purposes, I have a private cloud here."

When I am asked “Why VMware?” the answer is clear. In every test that we’ve made the other solutions were fighting yesterday’s battles. It’s like comparing the space shuttle to a racing car, even if the racing car is the best possible. The wealth of tools, the ease of management, the integration with the world of storage, and the advantage of the DR give me the ability to do everything better, cheaper, and more long lastingly. In my opinion we saved more than 50% as compared to physical servers and software.

— Chaim Inger, CTO, head of Infrastructure Operations and Technologies

Clalit Health Services

Clalit Health services virtualized their IT environment using VMware solutions

"I see VMware's SDDC revolution as an evolution for the infrastructure of the private cloud. today, all the subject of storage management, security and network is taking a lot of resources. If we are able to virtualize and automate these components, there is no doubt we could improve our savings and deliver a better service for our customers".

— Moshe Belker, Manager of 6 expert teams and 5 System and DBA teams

Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi

Enhancing patient experience through technology

Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi went into construction in March 2010 and is scheduled for completion in 2015. The hospital’s management wanted to provide a best-in-class digital environment for all patients in order to give them the best experience possible and to ensure their stay is a comfortable as possible from every aspect.

The IT team naturally has to play a key part in this vision and, as a result, deployed vCloud Automation Center for improved managed and oversight of its infrastructure. Thanks to VMware, the time it takes to deliver applications to the hospital will be reduced from two weeks to 15 minutes – or by 70% - due to the automation capabilities of VMware’s solution.

“The key to our IT strategy when we began our journey here was starting with private cloud and growing to a hybrid cloud or a software-defined datacentre. I think that the real drivers for that were increased agility and achieving better time to market for our customers, whether that’s physicians who may need data for research, of the ability for us to rapidly upgrade and enhance products, enabling new services.”

— Mike Reagin, Chief Information Officer, Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi

Cloud on Demand

When cloud vendor and Hybrid Cloud enablement partner, Cloud on Demand, looked for a solution that would pave the way for its business and provide the basis for the cloud and hybrid cloud services it sought to provide customers, the company elected to invest in the VMware SDDC (software-defined data centre) as its technology of choice.

“A huge benefit for us is that we have an immediate addressable market. Using the VMware technologies we have been instantly accepted in the market, without having to now educate and court them. This also extends to the training of our reseller base, who are already comfortable with the VMware technologies,”

— Jonathan Kropf, CEO at Cloud on Demand
