Casablanca INT is a leading provider of internet, data and voice services for the Czech Republic. A recently launched Public Cloud project called the ‘BIG BLUE ONE’ using VMware vCloud technologies, has enabled them to react to customer needs by providing a range of services via a public cloud for ICT, internet, on-line projects and applications. Casablanca INT now has the ability to offer customers not wanting to invest in physical hardware, the services of a public cloud. To improve operational efficiencies, Hertz International had a choice of either refreshing its existing infrastructure across its European locations at considerable expense, or implementing newer technologies. In addition to centralising the server estate, Hertz International wanted to simplify its complex desktop infrastructure, which constituted a considerable capital investment. Having over 4,000 PCs and laptops spread over 1,000 sites around Europe, upkeep and maintenance of these were real issue in terms of time, resource and cost. Following a review of the major offerings on the market, Hertz International decided to implement VMware View as it best suited the organisation’s needs and would easily integrate with its existing server virtualization infrastructure. It also made a decision to replace legacy desktop devices with zero client Wyse terminals.

The ExecuJet Aviation Group is a global business aviation organisation, offering a diverse range of services, including aircraft sales, management and charter. ExecuJet runs four data centres in Johannesburg, Capetown, Zurich and Dubai that underpin the IT for the entire organisation. The South African data centre desperately needed to upgrade a large amount of legacy infrastructure, and the company decided to consolidate its server infrastructure using VMware. Following their successful server virtualisation project, the management team got fully behind the IT team to explore the benefits of implementing a virtual desktop infrastructure. They looked into a number of options, but due to our great experiences with VMware and the range of features on offer, they choose to implement VMware View. By using VMware View, ExecuJet employees are now able to run Windows 7 from any internet-enabled device.

EPAM centralised infrastructure management in the first phase of the development process aiming at the establishment of an IT environment that would adapt more flexibly to business requirements. In the second phase of the developments in the summer of 2006, EPAM Systems decided to virtualise the development and test environments established for the projects. Thanks to VMware-based virtualisation, we are able to set up the development environment of a starting project several magnitudes faster, just under 1 hour instead of several days or weeks. The other big advantage of virtualisation is that development managers can take a snapshot of the environment before testing a new version or service pack of the software under development or before verifying the version compatibility of a new database manager. EPAM in recent years has achieved two-digit growth in revenues and employed staffs - which are also reflected in the cost of IT.

Student Loan Direct is an easy-to-use, user-friendly portal that also provides help and information functions. It enables users to create correct and properly completed documents required for the loan process. They can complete their loan applications and data update forms, view their loan agreements, balances, and repayment history, exchange messages with the Student Loan Center, and communicate using this channel instead of postal mail. The launch of the Student Loan Direct is a success story: 50 percent of all new loan applications already arrived through the portal started in September 2011. Since the virtualization of Student Loan Center, there were no unplanned server downtimes, and the server room requires less cooling and energy. The fault tolerance of the VMware-based environment, tested before implementing the Student Loan Direct portal, showed that operation continuity can be ensured if combined with regular data backups. The introduction of 7x24 service availability requires setting up a backup data center that Student Loan Center will implement using VMware’s disaster recovery solution.

To support the launch of the new 2012 Impreza, Subaru engaged marketing agency Carmichael Lynch to develop a revolutionary website to help drive their marketing campaign called firstcarstory.com it enables users to celebrate their first car experience and bring their story to life. By typing in the details, the site will automatically animate the story and provides the user with a personalised video that they could share through social media channels. A flexible rendering capacity was required to support the large numbers of visitors to their state of art real-time website. VMware Powered Service Provider Bitbrains was able to provide high performance computing nodes to help with simultaneous rendering. A hybrid cloud model based on VMware technology has provided a stable basis, within the first month the website had created over 10,000 animations. Videos are prepared and presented in less than 40 seconds.

École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) is a Federal Institute of Technology based in Lausanne in Switzerland, they have over 9,000 students and 4,500 staff members. EPFL needed to design, implement and maintain a centralized virtual infrastructure to meet the needs of the entire school. They also needed to reduce total cost of ownership and lower power consumption. vCenter Operations has transformed the way their library storage requirements are supported enabling effective predictions for capacity and a hybrid cloud model has been adopted to provide the ability to extend their infrastructure into the public cloud. As well as a 33% reduction in TCO and 80% reduction in power consumption, EPFL have also experienced increased capacity and optimization through the effective management of their cloud infrastructure.

Germany’s ADAC e.V. is Europe’s largest automobile association with more than 18 million members using the company’s various services from roadside assistance to automobile insurance.
