Region H tasked its IT department with providing 25,000 healthcare workers with an e ective, fast and agile workspace, accessible from any device, anywhere. Out of a number of possible solutions, they chose the VMware AlwaysOn Point of Care Solution, leading to time savings, improved productivity, and reduced support costs.

“We chose VMware for this project because of its product and engagement flexibility, which we saw in the pilot phase. This has lived up to our expectations during the production implementation.”

— Morten Møllegaard, lead technical project manager

Region Hovedstaden

VMware Professional Services to Bring Virtualization to Danish Health Care System. Working closely with a VMware Technical Account Manager, the region is making effective use of VMware Horizon View to support 25,000 clinicians. Region H had used VMware server solutions for several years, and they wanted to extend the benefits of virtualization out into the organization with a virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI). In particular, it wanted to give its 25,000 clinicians—who are on the front line of delivering care— fast, easy, and secure access to the IT systems they need to do their jobs. To do so, Region H decided to implement VMware Horizon View for desktop virtualization.

“The TAM felt like someone who was very much ‘our man’ and looked at things from our point of view. And this saved time and effort for us.”

— Morten Møllegaard, lead technical project manager working with Region H

Somerset School District

K-12 education has changed dramatically in recent years. According to Sara Eichten, principal at Somerset Middle School in Wisconsin, “The Common Core State Standards have drastically changed what we need to be doing with our students in both English language arts and mathematics, as well as focusing on disciplinary literacy in science, social studies, and other related arts classes.” So in May 2013 when Somerset School District was selected to participate in a pilot program to test the Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium (SBAC) platform to meet the requirements of the Common Core State Standards Initiative, it looked to VMware for help. VMware® Horizon View™ helped ease the deployment of the rigorous testing platform and deliver a seamless user experience to students.

"With VMware Horizon View, we didn’t experience any technical issues when we did the [Smarter Balanced] pilot. People were concerned about audio sound quality, videos, mouse movements—those things that are critical in high-stakes testing—but we saw no performance issues whatsoever in our environment. The virtual environment performed the way we expected it to, and we’re very happy with the results.”

— Ryan Sicard, Director of IT, Somerset School District

St Edmund’s College

St Edmund’s College needed to increase the efficiency and reliability of its IT estate, while enabling a new BYOD solution for pupils and teachers within the school. Using VMware software, the school has virtualized 95% of its servers and 70% of its desktop PCs, providing a new, central platform for managing IT.

“We’re really excited by what VMware’s technology has brought to St Edmund’s College. By giving pupils the opportunity to use their own devices, the children have become much more engaged within lessons and are able to experience new ways of working. Being able to access the school network from home or within the boarding houses is also allowing them to become more efficient and independent learners. Alongside this, we’ve also seen some significant cost and environmental savings for the school through increased energy efficiency and reduced maintenance costs.”

— Paulo Durán, Headmaster, St Edmund’s College
