VMware Outlines Vision for End-user Computing and Cloud Infrastructure Management at vSeminar Series 2011
Results from Asia Pacific cloud computing maturity research conducted by Independent Research firm also find that cloud adoption continues to accelerate across the region
JAKARTA, 1 November 2011 — VMware, Inc. (NYSE: VMW), the global leader in virtualization and cloud infrastructure, kicked off its annual VMware vSeminar Series 2011 in Jakarta today, and the one-day multiple track event provided attendees with the opportunity to discover the latest cloud infrastructure and management solutions to accelerate IT.
In a press conference held in conjunction with the event, VMware’s country manager for Indonesia, Andreas Kagawa, shared new products and cloud-based services for the company’s end-user computing and cloud infrastructure management vision. These solutions will help organizations break free from device-centric legacy desktop models and accelerate their journey to a new way to work in the post-PC era.

Enabling a New Way to Work
Building on the foundation of VMware vSphere® 5, VMware is bringing to market a comprehensive suite of technologies that deliver the automation, self-service and security capabilities customers need:
- VMware View™ 5– Simplifies IT manageability and control, while providing a high fidelity desktop virtualization experience.
- VMware Horizon – Extends the benefits of identity, policy and entitlement engine to virtualized Windows applications and connected mobile workspaces.
VMware’s latest vCloud offerings also make it easy for organizations to more quickly gain the agility benefits of cloud, and transform IT to drive greater efficiency of existing investments and improve operational agility.
- VMware vCloud® Director™ 1.5 – Provides a self-service model for provisioning infrastructure services across internal and external sources, thereby enabling IT to dramatically reduce the time required to provision new servers.
- VMware vCenter™ Site Recovery Manager™ 5 – Extends VMware’s proven disaster recovery solution with built-in VMware vSphere replication capabilities that allow customers to double the number of protected applications for the same cost while supporting heterogeneous storage configurations in the primary and backup sites.
- VMware vShield™ 5 – Addresses top enterprise concerns about cloud computing – security, control and compliance – and overcomes the limits of traditional security solutions by delivering an adaptive, software-based security model designed for virtual and cloud environments.
Simplifying and Automating IT Management
VMware's new management solutions will also help customers transform how they manage infrastructure, applications and business services in virtual and cloud environments:
Infrastructure: The VMware vCenter™ Operations Management™ Suite –Will feature new dashboards and smart alerts that correlate performance and capacity information to identify emerging problems, and identify and remediate performance issues caused by configuration changes. The updated vCenter Operations Management Suite will be offered in four editions to meet the IT operations needs of small and midsized businesses and enterprises, and is expected to be available in early 2012.- Applications: The VMware vFabric™ Application Management™ Suite– Will help customers increase agility and improve application performance by supporting an "active application management" approach that will help IT keep up with business demand for application changes and more effectively maintain application performance and availability in dynamic environments. vFabric Application Performance Manager is expected to be available in Q4 2011. vFabric AppDirector is expected to be available in early 2012.
- The Business of IT: The VMware IT Business Management Suite – Provides the rigor and discipline CIOs need to optimize the business value of IT investments and communicate IT’s value in language the business understands. The IT Business Management Suite is expected to be available in Q4, 2011 and will be licensed per user.
Cloud Adoption Continues to Accelerate Across the Region
An overview of the Cloud Computing in Asia Pacific: The Annual Cloud Maturity Index – a commissioned study conducted by Forrester Consulting on behalf of VMware in October 2011 – was also shared at the press conference.
Accordingly to the Index, 83 percent of respondents surveyed across Asia Pacific and Japan indicated that cloud computing is relevant to their business. In fact, 64 percent of respondents said their organizations are currently using or actively planning cloud initiatives.
The majority of respondents see cloud computing as a potential cost-saving measure (55 percent), and strong consideration drivers for cloud implementations include reduced hardware infrastructure costs (21 percent) and scalability on demand to meet business needs (19 percent). Additionally, 41 percent of respondents said they are likely to use a combination of public and private clouds compared to standalone private (31 percent) and public clouds (8 percent), but data privacy is a chief concern across the countries surveyed.
