VMware Service Provider Program Gains Traction in Southeast Asia

Twenty-Four Service Providers Signed Up in Six Months Across the Region

SINGAPORE – November 9, 2011 Advancing its vision of a hybrid cloud computing model, VMware, Inc. (NYSE: VMW), the global leader in virtualization and cloud infrastructure, today announced that twenty-four (24) service providers have signed up for their VMware Service Provider Program (VSPP) in the past six months. This is in addition to SingTel, which became a VMware vCloud® Datacenter partner in October 2010.

The Southeast Asian VSPP members, including JARING, Globe Telecom, and Telkom Sigma, join a pool of over 6,300 other service providers across 136 countries worldwide, and offer customers a wide choice of cloud services built on VMware cloud infrastructure that can function as an extension of any VMware-virtualized datacenter.

“This year’s Forrester’s Cloud Computing in Asia Pacific: The Annual Cloud Maturity Index [1] found that 61 percent of respondents expect cloud to increase the role of telco providers within their organizations,” said Ed Lenta, general manager, VMware ASEAN. “The momentum that we’re witnessing in ASEAN supports this result both with telco and hosting services providers. Our customers are looking for reliable, high-performance, secure clouds that are compatible with their existing applications and datacenter operations. VMware and our partners are uniquely positioned to deliver this.”

“VSPP provides users the ability to move workloads from VMware vSphere®- or an open virtualization format-based private cloud environment to a VMware vCloud-branded public cloud service and back again. This application portability is a key differentiator allowing customers to achieve the flexibility and security they need, while enabling increased IT agility,” added Paul Harapin, vice president, Business Development and Cloud, VMware Asia Pacific and Japan. “The new products and capabilities will help organizations more quickly gain the agility benefits of cloud in a way that is evolutionary and preserves their existing investments in operations and infrastructure.”

VMware also launched in August this year an online destination where enterprises could find vCloud service providers, learn about their capabilities and coverage, and quickly test drive new cloud services. Customers can then easily and quickly transfer workloads and data into those cloud services using the integrated VMware vCloud® Connector™ 1.5 Web client.
