Description:
Network PDF Server Appliance is a VMware Virtual Appliance based on a Linux Life System, Jakarta Tomcat and the freeware PDF-Composer/ Printer/ Mailer YAFPC (www.yafpc.net). The Appliance can act as a PDF-Printserver which provides an unlimited number of network shared virtual PDF-Printers. No operating system or other software installation is required. System configuration can be done via a Web browser from any workstation in the network. Virtual shared printers can be configured to apply letterheads, watermarks and appendixes to all printed documents. After printing, a document is sent to its owner by mail or can be accessed in a shared folder on the server.
The appliance was built on "YAFPC-Appliance" (www.pdfserver.net), a life CD image developed by the author for running the PDF Printer Server from CD on some PC. Key components of YAFPC-Appliance are the GPAS Linux life CD, Jakarta-tomcat-5.5.9, Java Runtime Environment 1.5.0_04-b05 from Sun Microsystems, ESP Ghostscript 7.07 and YAFPC 1.5a (all Freeware componets under GPL). VMware tools are available as signed plugin for better performance when running in a VMware Virtual Machine.
Installation and First Steps:
Simply unpack the zipped file to any location on your harddisk. The folder "My Virtual Machines" would be a good place. Start the virtual machine with VMWare Player or VMWare Workstation. After startup the IP address of the appliance is displayed in the terminal window. You can access the appliance for configuration with your browser at this address. Use "admin" as username and "setup" as password for your first login. You can Find more information about how to configure and use the appliance in the "manual.pdf".
IMPORTANT:
Please don't try to access the appliance in the terminal window. It can
only be accessed over the network!
