Description
This SvSAN software is installed on an ESX server. It manages the ESX server’s directly attached storage, presenting it as a virtual SAN that can be shared by the VMs running on a cluster of ESX hosts. The SvSAN can also manage lInternal RAID controllers which, in turn, manage the physical operation of a group of hard disks and supports external RAID controllers and JBODsThe appliance makes this attached disk storage look just like one or more local disks in the SAN.
This storage management interface enables you to manage your data storage effectively and efficiently with no detailed knowledge about the underlying technology required. The Storage Virtual Appliance, the virtual SAN and the storage subsystems can all be managed from a single, easy-to-use vCenter plugin.
VMFS datastores can be created in one step; SM Manager Suite performing all the underlying operations automatically (creating mirrored volumes, initiating discovery and login, configuring paths, formatting volumes).
The optional High Availability module allows you to mirror data to other SVsans. ESX sees both sides of the mirror as a single SAN with two data paths. In case of server failure VMotion or VMware HA allows you to continue on a different sever with reduced data paths. Fast resynchronization allows the mirrors to reform quickly when the failed server returns.
