Description:
This appliance implements an internet cafe server. This server is able
to provide many diskless stations with the required software to provide
a tamper-proof internet surf station to the user.
The diskless stations can be a simple computer with PXE-enabled
network card. In this case, a compatible xorg.conf file must be put in
the configuration directory (in /PXEROOT/ROOT-PROD on the server).
The diskless station can also be a VMWARE machine running the trivial
provided image pxelinux. This image simply boots a diskless system
by using the VMWARE-onboard PXE booter. In this case, you just
need to eventually add some entries with correct MAC-Addresses in
/etc/dhcp/dhcpd.conf on the server. (And then restart the server,
or at least the dhcp service by issuing /etc/init.d/dhcp restart)
1. The appliance provides a robust way to drive a pool of internet
stations (at this time up to 155 stations!)
2. The appliance is a multi-layered (see PDF file) gentoo installation.
The stations need to have a PXE-compliant network card, and the rest
is done by the appliance.
A sample pxelinux vmware image is also provided to test the
appliance on one single machine.
3. Start the cafemaster appliance, and the start the other vmware
image pxelinux. You should see a kiosk-mode opera browser start
in the pxelinux station image.
More Informations are contained in the cafemaster PDF file.
4. The whole software is emerged by gentoo (http://www.gentoo.org).
The complete list is obtained by issuing a "equery" command.
The browser software is genuine opera (http://www.opera.com).
My customizations are authorized in the scope of this challenge.
