VHCS VM - Virtual Hosting Server with an Open Source Control Panel

VHCS-VM was developed to provide a turn-key solution for
Virtual Web Servers with a fully functional Control Panel. This VMWare application
was built on the Debian Linux
operating system running Apache2.
I chose Debian for it's simplicity and ease of maintenance. The Control Panel
that is packaged with this virtual server appliance comes from the open source
project VHCS.
VHCS delivers a complete hosting automation appliance by
offering significant security, total-cost-of-ownership, and performance advantages
over competing commercial solutions. With VHCS you can configure your server
and applications, create users with domains with a few point-and-click operations
that take less than a minute. There is no limit to the number of resellers,
users and domains that can be created. At the core of VHCS are 3 easy-to-use,
Web-based control panels. VHCS provides graphic user interfaces for the administrators,
resellers and users.
VHCS-VM and VMWare
Server
open the door a little more for someone to sell hosting
products. VHCS-VM uses the latest stable builds of VHCS and integrates
in a Linux Apache Webserver that is ready to be downloaded and run. You
can host multiple Virtual VHCS-VM Servers running on one VMWare Server.
What is VHCS?
VHCS is an Open Source Software Project that is dedicated to giving users,
administrators and developers the ultimate level of control over their Linux
web servers, web sites and their data. The goal of VHCS' group of developers
is to create software that is easy for everyone to use, not just to pile
on features. It has a wide VHCS community of support, and is supported by
the leading companies in Linux and Unix. VHCS was developed and is used to
support dozens of languages, and they strive to ensure that every piece of
VHCS software can be translated into all languages.
What does VHCS do?
For data center operations and Virtual WebHosting sellers, it maximizes
productivity and eases administrative burdens while improving the return-on-investment
by providing the following features:

  • Graphic user interfaces for the administrators, resellers and users.
  • Hosting services plan management - create your own hosting plans, that
include a combination of hosting applications and server resources such
    as disk space and traffic.
  • Automated creation of users and domains.
  • Graphical evaluation of every reseller's and user's traffic.
  • Reduce the time required to manage web sites.

For server owners, their resellers, and their clients; VHCS shortens the
time and expertise required to deploy new sites. VHCS makes management of
sites, files, configurations and users easy, and provides all the services
anyone could need.

  • Virtual host management (Name-based, IP-based)
  • CO-Domains (Domain alias) and sub domains management
  • DNS (BIND 8 and 9) management
  • FTP users
  • E-mail addresses
  • POP3 and IMAP accounts
  • Auto responders
  • CGI, PHP,SSI configuration and management
  • MySQL user databases
  • Disk quotas
  • IP addresses
  • Backup and restore
  • SSL-secured domains
  • Password protection (.htaccess files)
  • Custom error files - 401, 403, 404 and 500
  • Traffic accounting
  • Multi language support
  • Skin-based graphic user interface - 4 pre-installed skins

The VHCS-VM Details :
Quick Start VHCS-VM Documentation:
The Quick Start instructions are, load the VHCS-VM in your VMWares Server
or Player and start it. When it finishes booting you can go to http://your.vm.ip.address/vhsc2/
and login, it's that simple. The VHCS
Project's Wiki
should have all the documentation you need. More
information can also be found at my website http:\vm.kasulka.com.
I will also be starting a forum there for users to post questions, issues,
and requests.
How it is Setup:
VHCS-VM started with basic Debian minimal install, then installed Apache,
MySQL, PHP, and VHCS (and their dependencies). The root shell has been modified
and scripts written to ease the administration and maintenance of the TracVM
applications.
The VMware setup was for 512mb of ram and 24 gig of possible storage. It
is using Bridge networking and will get a IP address your your DHCP server
or device.

over networks and the Internet reliably and securely.
VM
Tools
- VMware Tools supports significantly faster graphics
performance, provides support required for shared folders and for drag
and drop operations. Other tools in the package support synchronization
of time in the guest operating system with time on the host, automatic
grabbing and releasing of the mouse cursor, copying and pasting between
guest and host, and improved mouse performance in some guest operating
systems.
