WMR-XMK

Develop real-time embedded micro-controller applications

Description

WMR-XMK
==============================

Description:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This virtual appliance is geared towards people who want to develop
real-time embedded micro-controller applications. Using this virtual
appliance, developers can develop applications that use the eXtreme
Minimal Kernel (XMK) real-time operating system (RTOS). XMK "is a
preemptive multi-threaded real-time operating system for
micro-controllers"[http://www.shift-right.com/xmk/]. This RTOS is
ideal for 8 bit and 16 bit micro-controllers. In this virtual
appliance the XMK RTOS has been pre-configured and tested for Atmel
atmega128 targets. Targets that have been verified are the AVR
butterfly development board
[http://www.atmel.com/dyn/products/tools_card.asp?tool_id=3146] and
the Kaimax KRC robot communicator
[http://www.kairobot.co.kr/index.htm]

This appliance is very beneficial to embedded micro-controller
developers. Using this appliance developers can now concentrate on
developing the embedded applications without having to spend valuable
time installing and configuring the RTOS development environment.
This appliance also allows embedded developers who use Microsoft
Windows as their base operating system to develop real-time embedded
applications. The virtual appliance was configured with Debian Linux
as the base operating system. After Linux was installed, the XMK RTOS
and gcc-AVR was installed and configured. After everything was
installed and configured correctly, sample XMK AVR applications
were developed and tested on the AVR butterfly and the KRC robot communicator.

Note:: The AVR butterfly and KRC robot communicator application
examples are not included in this appliance, due to licensing and the
copyrights of the code. Users can follow
http://www.shift-right.com/xmk/xmk/overview.htm to configure a new
project.
