The Socialtext Virtual Edition is a VMware image of the Socialtext open-source software. The virtualized appliance approach gives customers greater convenience and flexibility than the traditional approach of building a hardware platform, integrating operating system and application components, and then tuning the whole solution to work well together. With only an existing copy of VMware required, Socialtext Virtual is pre-configured so deployment can be done in minutes without requiring significant technical resources. Although it is not geared for large-scale production deployment, Socialtext Virtual provides a turnkey wiki solution for on-site customer demonstrations, proof-of-concept projects or technical evaluations.
