Description

Altor VF - The 1st Purpose-Built Virtual Firewall
Server and desktop virtualization is creating a rapidly growing virtual network of virtual machines (VMs) inside host servers. Yet basic security practices such as monitoring network activity, inspecting and filtering traffic, and maintaining strictly separate security domains are often absent in the virtual environment. Inter-VM communication never touches the physical network, leaving it unprotected by physical network security.

The risks of an uncontrolled network with “blind spots” and no enforceable security policies are sobering. Among them is the potential for privilege escalation when VM workloads with different trust levels, such as Production and QA systems, reside on the same physical server. This risk is amplified when VMs move from host to host via VMotion.

Based on award winning innovations, the Altor VF solves the problems of blind spots, uncontrollable inter-VM traffic, unprotected migration of VMs, and erroneous mixing of VM trust levels. Enterprises can now achieve the full ROI of virtualization while maintaining security and regulatory compliance across both physical and virtual networks.

Altor VF Architecture
The Altor VF virtual firewall has the following components:
Altor VF virtual machine — The Altor VF firewall agent installs as a VM on each ESX server and can both monitor the traffic and/or enforce policy on all other VMs on that server.
Altor Center — Information from multiple Altor Agents is consolidated by the Altor Center giving administrators a centralized view of the virtualized data center.
Altor RM — The Altor RM reporting module provides a highly customized report pushed to you as a PDF via email on a regular basis (e.g., daily, weekly, or monthly)
