Social Computing is a new business paradigm
Social networking has more than doubled since 2007, and it now accounts for more than 1 in every 6 minutes spent online. Additionally, Forrester predicts that 43% of the American workforce – 63 million workers – will do some form of telecommuting by 2016.
VMware's vision is to transform the traditional PC desktop by equipping today's mobile workforce with secure access to applications and data from any location and any device, while driving increased productivity through modern collaboration and communication models. These new collaboration models promise to better support modern work streams that are increasingly more iterative and interconnected, as information is assembled and coordinated among virtual teams that cut across organizations.
Companies must provide a secure, yet open, way to enable employees to communicate and collaborate. IT organizations must ask themselves, “what do employees want - and need?” To address both the needs of the employee and the company, key CRM applications need to be migrated to the Cloud to accelerate innovation and improve staff productivity; users need to have a clear, easy, reliable mode of access and any solution must enable enterprise collaboration while providing a substantial financial savings and reduced development and support costs. In this section, we outline our programs and progress in this critical area, and while social networking is a moving target, a fundamental – and foundational - effort in this area is a critical investment.
