Protect Your Applications and Data

VMware solutions for business continuity and disaster recovery can protect you from planned and unplanned downtime simply & affordably.

High Availability

Ensure the highest level of availability and eliminate data loss for your business-critical applications without the cost and complexity associated with traditional application-level clustering. Perform live migrations and upgrades, essentially eliminating planned downtime. Automatically restart applications on available hardware when an operating system or server-level failure occurs, making unplanned downtime a thing of the past.

DISASTER RECOVERY

Simple and Reliable Disaster Recovery for all your Applications

With traditional disaster recovery solutions, businesses have to figure out what their budget can support and make tough decisions about which applications will not be covered. This process has been simplified thanks to the virtualization of IT resources and the advent of disaster recovery offerings via private and public clouds. Disaster recovery solutions are now both easy to manage and affordable, allowing for increased disaster recovery protection for all applications.

  • Private cloud disaster recovery
  • Cloud-based disaster recovery as a service
  • A dual approach to disaster recovery that leverages both private cloud and disaster recovery as a service.

VMware provides you with better flexibility to protect your business critical information in VMWare vSphere environments whether you choose to build your own solution or subscribe to disaster recovery services.

Private Cloud Disaster Recovery

For organizations that would like to build out their own private clouds for disaster recovery, VMware offers a portfolio of products that includes replication and disaster recovery orchestration, as well as a hyper-converged infrastructure solution to further simplify and reduce the costs of implementing a disaster recovery solution.

  • VMware Virtual SAN, a key component of VMware Hyper-Converged Software, brings the benefits of hyper-converged infrastructure and software-defined data center to storage.  By clustering server hard disk and solid state drives, Virtual SAN creates a flash-optimized, highly resilient shared datastore designed for virtual environments.
  • VMware vSphere Replication is a flexible and easy-to-use replication technology that is configured and managed at the virtual machine level, making it storage independent and an enabler of data mobility between heterogeneous storage systems.
  • VMware Site Recovery Manager provides automated orchestration and non-disruptive testing of centralized recovery plans to simplify disaster recovery management for all your virtualized applications.

Disaster Recovery-as-a Service

Disaster recovery-as-a-service solutions allow you to avoid the costs of purchasing the infrastructure and software needed for a secondary or tertiary disaster recovery site and to pay for your disaster recovery solution out of your operating budget.

  • VMware vCloud Air Disaster Recovery is a recovery-as-a-service solution owned and operated by VMware, that offers native cloud-based disaster recovery capabilities for vSphere environments. The service leverages vSphere Replication to provide robust, asynchronous replication capabilities at the hypervisor layer.

High Availability

Ensure Simple, Cost-Effective Availability for all your Applications

Traditional application-level clustering solutions are costly, hard to implement and difficult to manage. With VMware vSphere, you increase the baseline level of availability for all your applications and ensure service level agreements are met.

In addition, you can slash planned downtime, prevent unplanned downtime and recover rapidly from outages as you:

  • Eliminate planned downtime for common maintenance operations.
  • Provide higher availability independent of hardware, operating system and applications.
  • Recovery rapidly from operating system and server failures with automatic virtual machine restarts

Planned Downtime

Planned downtime for local system maintenance is the number one cause of downtime in IT environments. Maintenance windows are scheduled long ahead of time for evenings or weekends to minimize business impact. VMware vSphere enables organizations to eliminate planned downtime and perform system maintenance at any time to reduce the burden on IT and without affecting service.

  • VMware vSphere vMotion leverages the complete virtualization of servers, storage and networking to move an entire running virtual machine instantaneously from one server to another.
  • VMware vSphere Storage vMotion provides the ability to perform live migration of FM disk files across heterogeneous storage arrays with complete transaction integrity and application availability.

Unplanned Downtime

Due to the complexity and cost of application-level clustering, only a
minority of applications are typically protected with these
solutions. In traditional IT environments, that leaves the majority of
applications with no protection against unplanned downtime. VMware
provides a set of capabilities to provide simple and cost-effective
availability for all applications running on VMware vSphere.

  • VMware vSphere Fault Tolerance
provides continuous availability for applications in the event of
server failures by creating a live shadow instance of a VM that is in
virtual lockstep with the primary instance.
  • VMware vSphere High Availability
reduces application downtime by automatically restarting VMs on
available servers upon detecting server hardware or guest operating
    system failures.
  • VMware vSphere Application High Availability complements the functionality of vSphere High Availability with application-level monitoring and automated remediation.
