To evaluate a specific application inside a virtual machine such as a legacy application, a homegrown application that works in a supported guest operating system, or a new application you may be evaluating for your environment, follow these steps:

Install VMware ESX Server on the evaluation server and VMware VirtualCenter Server and VMware Infrastructure client on a client that has access to the ESX Server host.
Create multiple virtual machines on the ESX Server host in any of the following ways:
- Download or import a virtual appliance (The fastest way to get a virtual machine running in your environment).
- Create VMs from an ISO image
- Convert your existing physical servers to virtual machines using the convert functionality within VirtualCenter
