— Brian Vizina, IT Manager

Omni Companies

Financial Services Provider Target a Secure, PCI DSS-Compliant, Virtualized Environment for Online Services

“Our goal was to come up with a scalable foundation that was compliant with the standards required in the insurance and finance industries... The answer was a VMware cluster of servers hosted by a local datacenter service provider and protected with Trend Micro security.”

— Jeff Jackson, Co-Founder & CEO (Omni Technology Partner)

Babson College

Discover how Babson College implemented a Vblock™ Infrastructure Platform featuring VMware vSphere™ which allowed Babson to transition quickly and cost-efficiently to a flexible, scalable IT infrastructure.

“Colleges must be ready with the capacity and processing power to accommodate the IT needs of their faculty, students and administrators. Vblock is therefore a great architecture for institutions of all sizes: it is cost-efficient, fast to deploy and meets the most demanding performance and storage needs.”

— Sam Dunn, CIO

Oxford University

Oxford University is one of the oldest universities in the world. Their Computing Service (OUCS) needed to administer a secure database-as-a-service (DBaaS) solution to manage and share research data. VMware’s Hybrid Cloud has enabled OUCS to build a DBaaS that is shared by Oxford Colleges and other research universities. Hybrid Cloud was the only solution able to overcome security restrictions on datasets which require on-premise location. Increased data protection and improved service levels have enhanced their reputation in research excellence and now proven in production, DBaaS will now be offered as a service to all major UK research universities.

“Access to information is critical to maintain our position as the world’s top university and we needed a flexible, scalable infrastructure. After doing our own research, we decided a Hybrid Cloud as best suited to our requirements. The vCloud datacentre service combined with Colt’s pedigree in information delivery, was the natural choice for us.”

— Dr Stuart Lee, Director of IT, University of Oxford

Servier Hungária Kft.

Az üzleti igények gyorsabb és rugalmasabb kiszolgálása, a szerverkörnyezet költséghatékonyabb működtetése, a hardver- és szoftverberuházási költségek csökkentése érdekében a Servier Hungária IT-menedzsere 2009-ben szervervirtualizációs és -konszolidációs projekt megvalósítását javasolta, amelyet a cég vezetői, az elérhető előnyöket értékelve, jóváhagytak.A VMware alapú virtualizált szerverkörnyezetben a Servier Hungária IT-csapata összehasonlíthatatlanul jobban gazdálkodhat az erőforrásokkal, dinamikusan és rugalmasan oszthatja el a terhelést, és a karbantartást is elvégezheti munkaidőben, a szolgáltatások szüneteltetése nélkül.

“Our VMware based virtual server environment is not just more flexible and cost-effective, but also a lot more reliable and stable than an infrastructure built on dedicated servers. For users who are not familiar with the concept of virtualization, this may sound like a contradition at first, but practice has clearly delivered proof of its viability.”

— Viktor Márton, IT Manager, Servier Hungária Kft.

Hungarian National Bank (Magyar Nemzeti Bank)

Az MNB szervervirtualizációs projektje a VMware ESX Server 3.5-ös verziójával indult, de a platform legújabb, 4.0-s verzióra történő frissítése a HP-val kötött support szerződésnek is része. A virtualizált szerverek felügyeletére a jegybank a VMware vCenter megoldását vezette be. Az MNB a hardvererőforrások átlagosan 70 százalékos kihasználását tűzte ki célul, ami a projekt eredményeként a gyakorlatban megvalósult. A jegybank a VMware virtualizációs megoldásával ötödére csökkentette a szervergépek számát, amivel arányosan csökkent a kiszolgálók hely- és a hűtésigénye is.

“Due to the extra importance of the national bank’s role, a virtualisation solution already well-proven in the market and providing high standards of support and having adequate references in Hungary could be considered only. VMware’s virtualisation technology met these strict requirements.”

— Gyula Pap, IT Director, Hungarian National Bank

ADP Dealer Services

The company sought an end-user computing (EUC) solution from VMware to enable quick provisioning and de-provisioning of development environments. The ADP Dealer Services team chose VMware View for global deployment. With the View client, the developers access their remote workstations, either locally or remotely. The remote View workstation securely interacts with any ADP application from anywhere. The company has realized two great benefits – the ability for each administrator to manage 300-400 workstations, and the ability of the team to create and deploy workstations exceedingly fast, up to 50 or 60 a day.

"To give our team a space where they could be creative - where they could have a lot of flexibility in their personal compute - we started rolling out View.

— Bill Naughton, CIO

CloudOne, Inc.

CloudOne delivers IBM Rational development tools in the cloud using an elastic, highly scalable, and economical SaaS model, powered by VMware.

"At McDonald's we focus on what we do best - we are not in the IT business. We needed a Rational solution for development that was flexible and elastic; on that could manage the peak times, and the valleys where we do little development. By using CloudOne's Rational SaaS (Software as a Service) solution, we were able to easily adjust to varying demands; we didn't need to buy additional expensive tooling."

— Scott Farnum, Global Infrastructure Lab Manager

TUI InfoTec

The critical need to identify performance issues and outages prompted TUI InfoTec to improve troubleshooting, resulting in a 50 percent reduction in the time to identify issues.

“Now we have vCenter Operations on a single pane of glass that can roll down to the storage network and also the infrastructure CPU memory resources to have a clear overview of what could be the first root cause of an issue or performance."

— Christian Rudolph, Infrastructure Architect at TUI InfoTec

Beaufort Memorial Hospital

"Citrix was very complicated and difficult to maintain. With VMware, it just works out of the box. We don't spend a lot of time keeping it up and running like we did with Citrix. And now I have time to do other things that I need to be working on instead of just keeping it up and running."

— Brian Vincik, Senior Systems Administrator
