FrieslandCampina Hungária Zrt.

Targets set with regard to virtualisation • Increasing the availability of services • Improving the response times and effectivity of IT operations • Avoiding the need to increase the floor space rented in the data centre of the hosting service provider, establishing an in-house server room • Decreasing the costs of operation Results achieved with VMware’s solution • no shutdowns due to malfunction • maintenance and improvements without restricting the services • due to remote supervision, a smaller operational staff perform tasks • almost 80 virtual servers • 11 blade servers at two sites • 75 percent hardware resource utilization • hardware purchases decreased by 75 percent • cessation of data centre rentals • establishment of in-house server room with an investment return of three years

„The virtualisation solution of VMware proved to be an excellent choice in every respect. Since it was introduced, we had no shutdowns due to any malfunction, we have been able to perform developments during continuous service in a way transparent to the users, while our hardware procurements and operatings costs fell significantly.”

— Tamás Nagy, IT operations team leader, FrieslandCampina Hungária Zrt.

Clal Insurance Holdings

"The server farm has become 100% virtual. All the Windows or Linux based servers run on VMware vSphere. We have 500 virtual servers. Actually, for all intents and purposes, I have a private cloud here."

When I am asked “Why VMware?” the answer is clear. In every test that we’ve made the other solutions were fighting yesterday’s battles. It’s like comparing the space shuttle to a racing car, even if the racing car is the best possible. The wealth of tools, the ease of management, the integration with the world of storage, and the advantage of the DR give me the ability to do everything better, cheaper, and more long lastingly. In my opinion we saved more than 50% as compared to physical servers and software.

— Chaim Inger, CTO, head of Infrastructure Operations and Technologies

Anonymous Financial Institution UK

The financial services industry is a fast-moving and highly competitive market where things can change in an instant and gaining ‘first-mover’ advantage can often be crucial. Being aware of sudden movements in the market, and having the ability to react accordingly are therefore two of the biggest challenges facing financial sector organisations today. For this major multi-national financial services organisation dealing with corporate, private and retail investments and holding many thousands of portfolios, ensuring it has both access to real-time data and a scalable, flexible and reliable IT infrastructure are paramount.

“VMware vFabric GemFire has dramatically improved the speed with which we can react to changing market conditions. We can now manage risk in real-time, and run calculations 60 times faster than ever before - all of which has made a major impact on our business.”

— CTO, leading financial services organisation

Southwest Airlines

“Southwest Airlines is the customer service champ in the industry. Taking excellent care of our customers is just as important as filling our planes with fuel. It’s really what makes us go. So as we are taking a look and trying to be what travelers want in an airline, and we are constantly looking for ways to improve Southwest Airlines and make it better for our customers, that's really where virtualization and IT as a service comes into play.”

— Bob Young, VP and Chief Information Technology

Dreher Sörgyárak Zrt.

Dreher used VMware ESX 3.5 to virtualize its server environment, and now upgrades it to vSphere 4.1 Version The benefits from the flexibility of the VMware environment have a noticeable effect on the performance of every day operation tasks: for example, using vMotion they can easily reshuffle the virtual machines between the hosts, and literally the business department does not even notice if any of the physical machines is shut down for maintenance. With VMware tools, 70 to 80 percent of the operation tasks can be managed in-house, with unchanged staff numbers, which leads to significant cost savings. Since 2009 Dreher Sörgyárak Zrt. switched to 24-hour operation, for which the continuous availability too was easier to maintain by using a VMware based server environment.

"Compared to our former costs of operation, the total cost of our virtualization project including the price of the new hardware and the license fees, was recovered in 18 months.".

— Ferenc Schüszterl, IT Services Manager, Dreher Sörgyárak Zrt.
