Overview
Sun offers a variety of virtualization solutions from VMware, including VMware ESX, GSX Server and Workstation. Both VMware ESX and GSX Server are equipped to run on SUN x64 systems. Together, VMware and SUN are enabling customers to maximize performance and reduce overall cost of ownership through server consolidation, business continuity and test/development solutions.
In addition to SUN's x64 systems, the solution includes SUN's v20z, v40z and the SE6920.
With VMware ESX on x64 Sun Fire servers and future support for the Solaris OS, IT organizations can extend their options to easily provision new services running on the Solaris 10 OS, Windows and standard Linux distribution operating systems on the same piece of hardware, thus ensuring greater utilization of the servers.
VMware customers will be able to take advantage of key features of Solaris 10, including Dynamic Tracing (Dtrace), Solaris Containers and Predictive Self Healing on any architecture. With technology advances such as enhancements to the network stack and special optimizations for multithreaded x64/x86 architectures, Solaris 10 is powering enterprise applications at record speeds on Sun Fire systems.
