Featured Customer Story: eMix

Providing medical images and information when and where they're needed is the mission of eMix (Electronic Medical Information Exchange). Instead of sending CDs with patients or setting up costly VPNs to transfer information between facilities, eMix lets medical facility subscribers forward information directly to medical staff. The system is hosted at iland on a VMware vSphere cloud infrastructure that supports HIPAA-compliant applications. The scalable platform is in a logically-separated, hosted private cloud and the eMix gateway is typically provided as a virtual machine. Transferring information and images over eMix when a patient goes straight to the operating room and bypasses emergency room re-diagnosis typically saves between $14,000 and $18,000.

Seven Corners

Based out of Carmel, Indiana, Seven Corners is a global travel insurance, travel medical and travel assistance company, with 800 programs in five major product lines that span over 50,000 members at any given time. In order to keep up with the company’s consistent growth, IT overhauled the entire infrastructure. Through VMware, Cisco UCS, and NetApp FlexPod technology, Seven Corners was able to build a fast and efficient private cloud solution to reduce the time and price of processing an insurance claim, implementing new business, and collecting the premium. Seven Corners is a great example of how an SMB can leverage a VMware-centric infrastructure to rapidly engineer its IT capabilities and build innovative business services that are generating whole new revenues.

Subaru and Minivegas

Working with the marketing agency Carmichael Lynch, Subaru USA developed the online marketing campaign www.firstcarstory.com. Minivegas Studio added the interactivity to this campaign with a unique video engine where visitors can input text, select images, and add music – all in real-time. The project requires fast online rendering during variable site traffic rates spurred by strategic media placements by Subaru. Minivegas Studio chose a VMware vCloud Powered Partner to provide the required real-time render capacity within a pay-as-you-go structure that can dynamically add processing power as needed. Without requiring a huge upfront investment, Subaru's site has the processing power it needs to deliver an optimized user experience.

Gratifón

Gratifón needed a dependable, scalable and cost-efficient server infrastructure to support its telephone kiosks and a rugged, reliable embedded PC for the kiosks that would be able to stand up to high temperatures and humidity. As an alternative to building and maintaining its own data center, Gratifón runs its public cloud solution on the Dell™ Cloud with VMware vCloud Datacenter Services as its supporting infrastructure. Dell OptiPlex™ XE embedded desktops run the kiosks.

"With the Dell vCloud Services, I was up and running in a couple of hours. The greatest thing is, when I wanted to add capacity, it's a point and click experience. Charles River Labs

Charles River Labs virtualized its help-desk application that typically handles 100-200 tickets per day, the first deployment of business-critical applications at the company. Deployment objectives included reducing Capex expenses, capping internal datacenter spending, deploying new systems on the public cloud, and migrating others over the next few years.

"I see Cloud being key to our overall strategy moving forward. The days of us investing heavily all of our capital into building hardware and infrastructure are past now. With the options that are available now from cloud partners, they bring agility, flexibility and in some case cost savings as well, for using that model." — Steven Spiers, CTO, Charles River Labs

Oxford University

Oxford University is one of the oldest universities in the world. Their Computing Service (OUCS) needed to administer a secure database-as-a-service (DBaaS) solution to manage and share research data. VMware’s Hybrid Cloud has enabled OUCS to build a DBaaS that is shared by Oxford Colleges and other research universities.

Hybrid Cloud was the only solution able to overcome security restrictions on datasets which require on-premise location. Increased data protection and improved service levels have enhanced their reputation in research excellence and now proven in production, DBaaS will now be offered as a service to all major UK research universities.
