What is VMware’s partnering stance with respect to Security Solutions?
VMware and its partners help meet customer need for adaptive, virtualization-aware and cost-effective security solutions for virtualization and cloud deployments. The VMware focus is on delivering a comprehensive, integrated management and policy framework through VMware vCloud Networking and Security, ensuring that VMware vCloud Networking and Security and our partner offerings are tightly integrated.
VMsafe is a successful program that has enabled the first generation of introspection-based solutions from VMware partners. VMware is fully committed to supporting these solutions for our mutual customers. The VMsafe partners are Altor Networks, Checkpoint, IBM, McAfee, Reflex and Trend Micro.
Responding to VMsafe customer and partner feedback, VMware is now introducing its next generation of introspection-based solutions. This technology makes its debut in vShield Endpoint solutions. This next generation introspection platform brings additional benefits to the VMsafe investments, specifically:
- Broader integration of management frameworks with our partners
- Better abstraction of lower level APIs for improved ease of integration with partner solutions
- More scalable partner-based integration efforts, easier certification

Is the VMsafe program being discontinued now?
VMware fully supports our existing VMsafe partner solutions. There are currently no additional VMsafe partner integrations planned. VMware and our partners are now focused on broader, scalable integration with VMware vCloud Networking and Security solutions and VMware management frameworks.
Is there a security certification for VMware partners?
Today, the VMware Ready program for security is under development for security solutions.
What is the EPSEC (Endpoint Security) API and how is it related to VMsafe?
VMsafe enabled the first generation of introspection-based solutions. The EPSEC APIs are currently focused on introspection-based solutions for endpoint protection, and the current version is optimized for anti-virus/anti-malware protection.
