The rich capabilities of VMware Infrastructure 3 are packaged into three editions to fit the needs and budget of any organization: Foundation, Standard and Enterprise. Each edition includes a hypervisor as well as a set of management capabilities. Customers can choose to deploy either VMware ESX or VMware ESXi.
VMware VirtualCenter provides centralized management for VMware Infrastructure so you can manage and administer your entire virtual environment from a single console. Although a VMware VirtualCenter agent is included in every VMware Infrastructure license, one instance of the VirtualCenter Management server is required to enable the central management capabilities of VMware Infrastructure.
