"Being first to market and certifying our staff with VMware technologies has been a tremendous advantage for Fujifilm. We are able to help our customers large and small effectively roll out completely virtualized solutions that save them valuable time and resources." Jim Morgan
FUJIFILM Medical Systems U.S.A., Inc. began using VMware products over three years ago. We initially started using them internally to launch a flexible, mobile Synapse® brand demonstration system. The VMware products allowed us to successfully deploy an application server, database and compression engine, all on a single laptop. Later, we employed the technology at the Fujifilm datacenter to offer our software as a service to smaller customers. Using VMware, Fujifilm is able to provide affordable access to the latest PACS, RIS and cardiovascular technologies to healthcare providers of all sizes. In addition, thanks in large part to using VMware, our customers get consistently high levels of availability and performance—key requirements in healthcare. As a result, Fujifilm has tripled the size of its datacenter business. For medium to large hospitals and healthcare providers, VMware products allow Fujifilm to deliver a truly lower TCO, better use of physical hardware and a reduction in energy costs. A recent customer, a large healthcare delivery network, chose the Fujifilm application for its 19 facilities. Its legacy product needed 80 physical servers, used significant amounts of energy and space, and was budget intensive. Now, utilizing VMware technologies, Fujifilm reduced the number of physical servers to six, created more space, and cut operating costs significantly. Recognizing the benefits of running a virtualized solution, many of our large customers now specifically request it. For Fujifilm, getting certified as VMware Ready has been a huge plus in gaining customer credibility and confidence. The technology keeps getting better, and that keeps Fujifilm at the forefront of innovation. |

"We consider ourselves experts in voice, not virtualization. We wanted to partner with the experts in virtualization. Together we deliver something far beyond what our customers would expect. We've been able to create something unique that changes the way businesses think about their IT departments." Stephen Beamish
For more than 35 years, Mitel has built voice solutions for business. About three years ago, we set out to do something unprecedented. The general belief was that virtualizing voice applications couldn't be done because of the real-time performance requirements. To achieve virtualization, we chose to work with VMware. Not only are they the best at what they do, but they also have the largest market share and the industry's respect. After working with the VMware R&D team for 18 months, we accomplished our goal. We were first to market with a virtualized VoIP solution for corporate customers. Our virtualized offering breaks new ground and doesn't sacrifice any of the precision that voice demands. Eight months after launch, there is still no one else who can do what we're doing. When you virtualize solutions, you free up IT from simply keeping the lights on, and allow them to be more strategic. In other words, by enabling virtualization, we're able to solve a much larger business problem. So instead of speaking just to the telecom group, we're having C-level discussions. We're face to face with the people who lead the business. By making voice applications virtual, we offer whole new ways for our customers to think about how to simplify their network and create new capabilities. When we first started working with VMware, it was strictly about creating our virtual voice solution. But as we've engaged, we've discovered new growth opportunities with other teams inside the company. Our VMware partnership will lead to new and better solutions in areas we never even anticipated.

"Our relationship with VMware allows us to increase our internal velocity and exceed our customer's expectations. As a result, we can reach more customers while improving clinical outcomes." Larry Matteson
We started working with VMware on internal cost savings initiatives. Through the use of Lab Manager, we saved roughly $800K in provisioning costs in the first year. We expect to save even more as we extend the use of Lab Manager throughout the organization. We then looked at leveraging ESXi to host a "virtual" test system that reduced the COGS for our test equipment by $9200 per system. We expect to save over $5M annually with this program. This system has been positively received by our customers. Membership in the Technology Alliance Partner program ensured that we get the most out of our virtualization solutions. VMware's engineering support team helped us focus our initiatives and apply best practices to design, development, and deployment. We truly appreciate the level of commitment made by VMware to help us gain velocity in our strategic development efforts. Our development charter is to make our solutions easy to deploy, fit "hand in glove" with hospital IT best practices, and result in improved clinical outcomes for our customers. The VMware Ready logo on CareFusion products provides peace of mind that the products will perform reliably within the hospital IT infrastructure. It's important to us that we can accommodate the needs of shrinking budgets in hospitals while improving the standard of care. VMware products help us to do just that. Certification and membership in the TAP program is also opening up new opportunities as we look at our solution roadmap. We see a growing interest in SaaS, and the way we deploy or host our solutions through VMware technologies allows us to meet this demand. So not only can we keep pace with the changing needs of our current market segments, but we have the flexibility to grow and pursue new opportunities.

"Our partnership with VMware gives us faster turnaround times, greater flexibility and lower cost. We can now build complex environments that would have once been out of reach. In turn, the VMware team has offered us excellent support. As an IT manager trying to deploy complex systems, that’s extremely valuable." Stephen Schleiger
In 2005, we looked at VMware for a way to quickly provision and maintain a diverse development environment. We started using Lab Manager for engineering and test/development, which let us provision more systems faster, and with far less hardware. The ability to bring a whole host of environments to our development teams, and deliver those in almost real time, has allowed us to be a much more agile support team for our software products. Working with VMware has also improved our time to market because we can get started on development more quickly, and can work through initial problems sooner. Our success with VMware has completely changed the way we do IT. We used to expect a five to ten thousand dollars cost for server deployment. Now we can deploy a new server for only 10% to 25% of that and we can accomplish it in a quarter of the time it used to take. Now that IT has additional capabilities and a lower overall cost, we are coming in on or below budget. As a result, our department has had a positive impact on the overall business bottom line. With the Technology Alliance Partner (TAP) program, we worked with VMware to better support our customers. We had provided virtual systems for quite a few years, and we were running our product in a virtual environment. Next, our customers wanted to do the same thing. We started using VMware virtualized environments to provision and deploy systems for our customers. Now we have a number of major sites running purely in VMware virtual environments. This was driven by demand from our larger customers, and we can see that demand spreading to customers of all sizes.

"The greatest benefit of engaging with VMware in one word? Energy. Not just the grid we use to power our infrastructure, but the pure excitement and electrifying innovation we've felt at every step. Virtualized or private cloud architecture is a viable reality for managed file transfer." Dirk Zwart
Linoma Sotftware began looking at VMware when our customers were asking if our applications were compatible. At first, finding a way into the virtualization community seemed daunting. We were wary of added project management and resource allocation, and concerned about how virtualization or cloud computing would affect secure file transfer. We were already a Novell ISV, so when VMware announced their alliance with SUSE Linux, we felt the time was right to join the Technology Alliance Partner program. Not only were our customers asking about VMware virtualization to reduce energy costs and physical servers, but the server sprawl and number of test machines within our company were becoming a management issue. Once we setup our VMware vSphere™ test environment, it was only two days before we had many enterprise operating systems running in virtual environments. The back-up snapshots feature has been a significant timesaver, especially in a dynamic testing environment. We can instantly restore any server to its default installation. In addition, we have lowered both power consumption and the ambient temperature in our test area by reducing our physical systems. We expected a sharp learning curve along with heavy use of the support forum during our deployment. Installations were as easy as starting the host server and the user interface virtually walked us through the process, including the easy configuration of high availability clusters. The VMware solution gave us an out-of-box experience as if we had just procured another physical server and were installing it for the first time, including the ability to configure the server BIOS. With a running VMware environment, testing our secure managed file transfer software for the VMware Ready certification was the next logical step. Linoma Software’s test results were sent to VMware and after passing their review, we received the VMware Ready certification. Hence, Linoma Software can confidently assure any current or prospective customers that GoAnywhere Director and GoAnywhere Services our secure managed file transfer software, run flawlessly on VMware.
