VMware vFabric™ Hyperic

vFabric™ Hyperic®, a stand-alone component of vFabric Application Performance Manager, helps web operations teams monitor the application infrastructure for custom web applications across physical machines, a virtual infrastructure environment, or the cloud. By providing immediate notification of application performance degradation or unavailability, Hyperic enables system administrators ensure availability and reliability of critical business applications. With out-of-the-box monitoring of application metrics, app servers, web servers, databases, messaging servers, authentication systems, guest and physical operating systems, virtual machines (VMs), vSphere ESX hosts, and more, you'll have single-pane visibility into your entire application stack regardless of where it is deployed.

On install, Hyperic collects a vast range of performance data—50,000 metrics across 80 application technologies—and is easily extensible to monitor any component in your application stack including an additional 40 application technologies readily available on Hyperic’s community Hyperforge. With visibility into every layer of your application infrastructure—from Java code to base OS or hypervisor and everything in between, Hyperic provides every production application operations team member what they need to rapidly troubleshoot problems and proactively prevent new ones.

Built to manage applications on traditional on-premise infrastructure and optimized to run on virtualized and cloud-based infrastructure, including VMware vSphere, Hyperic allows you to track live changes across your entire application stack, regardless how you deploy across physical, virtual and application specific resources.

Hyperic helps application owners keep their entire application stack under management by defining intelligent alerts that apply to resources of the same type, so in times of scale-out, new resources coming under management are automatically incorporated into the run-book policies. Further, alert policies can be extended to include required acknowledgements before escalations occur and respnse actions can automatically be triggered to correct typical problems before they become outages such as restarting a service, running garbage collection or flushing heap.

Each Hyperic agent takes just about a minute to configure – simply specify the IP address of the Hyperic server collecting the agent data, and Hyperic’s Auto-Discovery takes care of the rest. This ease of configuration lets you monitor numerous servers with minimal effort. In fact, one customer monitors 1,500 servers with less than one full-time employee (FTE). Hyperic also makes it easy to assess problems and perform root cause analysis (RCA) by correlating performance metrics with configuration changes, log data and security events so changes in performance are easy to triangulate and identify. Hyperic’s dashboards and reports make it easy to demonstrate compliance with SLAs, operating level agreements (OLAs), and undermining contracts (UCs) to their respective owners and IT management.
