How to buy VMware vFabric SQLFire

VMware vFabric SQLFire is FREE for development use

Developers writing applications that incorporate vFabric SQLFire can do so at no charge. All other uses (pre-production test, user acceptance testing (UAT), production deployment) requires a commercial license.

VMware vFabric SQLFire has two commercial editions:

VMware vFabric SQLFire Professional Edition
VMware vFabric SQLFIre Enterprise Edition

vFabric SQLFire Professional Edition is provided under two license types: Per Virtual Machine (Per VM) and Per CPU. Purchased either way, vFabric SQLFire Professional Edition is a one-time perpetual license under which service and support (SnS) contracts can be renewed annually.

The Per Virtual Machine option is a powered-on VMware vSphere® virtual machine, up to two vCPUs per licensed virtual machine. To purchase vFabric SQLFire Professional Edition with the Per Virtual Machine license, you purchase the VMware vFabric Advanced product.

Purchasing vFabric SQLFire Professional per CPU entitles a single processor up to six cores. When you purchase vFabric SQLFire Professional per CPU, no other vFabric components are included. This is referred to as "standalone" purchasing.

Limitations: Whether purchased as part of vFabric Advanced or standalone, vFabric SQLFire Professional Edition restricts the use of stored procedures and map/reduce capability (referred to as “data aware procedures” in the SQLFire documentation). Global Wide Area Network (WAN) capabilities are not available as part of vFabric SQLFire Professional Edition. An unlimited number of SQLFire Professional Edition nodes can be connected together, each sold separately. (prior releases restricted SQLFire Professional Edition to two nodes).

vFabric SQLFire Enterprise Edition is provided on a per CPU basis only, currently there is no per VM option. SQLFire Enterprise Edition enables all capabilities of the product including Global WAN connectivity. An unlimited number of SQLFire Enterprise Edition nodes can be connected together, each sold separately. VMware vFabric Enterprise Edition is available as a one-time perpetual license under which service and support (SnS) contracts can be renewed annually.
