VMware vCenter CapacityIQ End of Availability
As dynamic virtual and cloud infrastructure requires an integrated approach to performance, capacity and configuration management, VMware is offering these capabilities in a single solution called the vCenter Operations Management Suite.
vCenter Operations incorporates the capacity management features of vCenter CapacityIQ and offers many additional capabilities and enhancements over the standalone product. In an effort to simplify and streamline our product portfolio, VMware has decided to discontinue sales of vCenter CapacityIQ as a standalone product.
Existing vCenter CapacityIQ customers who are currently under a Support and Subscription (SnS) contract are entitled to upgrade to vCenter Operations Advanced Edition free of charge.
Many of the views, menus and reporting features previously available in vCenter CapacityIQ will look and feel the same in vCenter Operations Manager which will minimize the learning curve. Please read the vCenter Operations Manager documentation for a detailed list of changes and enhancements.
vCenter CapacityIQ will no longer be available for sale as of January 24, 2012. After that, customers can purchase equivalent capacity management functionality in the vCenter Operations Management Suite Advanced version and above.
Customers will be able to get telephone and internet support for vCenter CapacityIQ until their current contract expires or until December 1, 2012, whichever is earlier. VMware will not be developing new patches or maintenance releases for vCenter CapacityIQ after December 1, 2012. Therefore, if customers experience an issue with vCenter CapacityIQ, and a patch is not produced prior to December 1, 2012, customers may be asked to upgrade to vCenter Operations Management Suite Advanced per the entitlement policy.
VMware vCenter Operations Manager 5.0 provides a migration path for vCenter CapacityIQ. You can import data previously collected with vCenter CapacityIQ in vCenter Operations. Please read the vCenter Operations Manager documentation for more details.
Customers on CapacityIQ who are under a SnS contract will be entitled to vCenter Operations. Should you have any questions, please contact Support to find out the details on how to migrate.
VMware will provide patches and maintenance releases for customers who are under a SnS contract until the end-of-support date, December 1, 2012.
No, all service offerings for vCenter CapacityIQ will be discontinued following the end-of-availability. In some instances, these services may be replaced by equivalent services for the vCenter Operations Management Suite.
No. VMware will continue to support vCenter CapacityIQ through the term of the customer’s SnS contract or End of General Support on December 1, 2012, whichever comes first. Yes, the product will continue to function but VMware will not provide access to support services, patches or maintenance releases.

SnS costs will not change prior to the renewal of an SnS contract.
