By Ramin Sayar, senior vice president and general manager, Cloud Management Business Unit
At today’s VMworld 2014 general session, VMware CEO Pat Gelsinger will announce several new innovations across virtualization, cloud management and integrated OpenStack solutions that will help customers advance their software-defined data center and hybrid cloud initiatives. Attendees can expect to hear about how the software-defined data center empowers customers to manage heterogeneous clouds, hypervisors and physical environments, based on both VMware and non-VMware technologies.
One of the innovations to be introduced today is VMware vRealize Suite, a purpose-built platform for managing the hybrid cloud. I’m excited about how we will further help our customers address their IT challenges. In addition to the new offering, I’m proud to introduce a new brand – vRealize – for our Cloud Management family of products.
History of Cloud Management Innovation
When we established the Cloud Management team four years ago, our mission was to help our customers meet the new challenges of the cloud era. Since then, we have expanded our product portfolio — through organic innovation and acquisitions — to address the ever-changing needs of IT.
We advance our mission today with vRealize Suite. It represents an evolution from a product to a suite to now a platform strategy that combines our market-leading cloud automation, cloud operations and cloud business management solutions into a single package.
In my conversations with customers, they tell me they’re looking for unified management across the IT team. They want to manage and monitor physical and multi-hypervisor platforms as well as private, public and hybrid clouds. We are delivering the vRealize Suite to help CIOs and their IT teams meet those challenges head on.
The vRealize Suite will offer customers:
- Speed and agility required to rapidly deliver applications and infrastructure; and,
- Cost transparency and control needed by IT to safeguard application uptime, performance, security and compliance.
We believe we are best positioned to help IT tackle today’s changing business requirements with our comprehensive management capabilities. With vRealize Suite’s common services model and integrated interface, customers can expect to achieve a level of automation and orchestration that is unparalleled.

What’s in a name?
Beyond today’s product news, we’re also unveiling a new brand – vRealize. At the root of the brand is realize. Our aim is help our customers finally realize the value they expect from their IT investments, and help them realize their journey to the hybrid cloud.
It’s big day for the VMware cloud management team. I’m excited to be at the helm of this team as we take these steps to deliver a cloud management platform and management as a service.
