Description

This technical note explains how to boot the ESXi 4.0 Installable image from the network using PXE. This installation is completely stateless and does not rely on the presence of a local disk. Therefore, the installation and post-install configuration are not persistent across reboot. This enables you to run the deployment on systems with no disk or other local persistent storage. PXE booting greatly simplifies the installation and upgrade processes. Scaling to many machines is much easier because you do not need to perform any manual installation steps.
