Description

This document describes the results of testing completed jointly by VMware and HP to study performance of IBM WebSphere Application Server on VMware ESX 4 with HP ProLiant DL380 G6 servers. As seen in the tests, VMware ESX 4 performance is at most 11% less than the performance of a comparable physical server without virtualization. In some test cases, VMware ESX 4 outperformed the physical environment. Both virtual and physical environments provided incremental performance gains as the number of active CPUs was increased.
