Citrix XenApp Server Deployment on VMware Technical Case Study

Description

This document provides a technical case study on the deployment of Citrix XenApp for a multinational insurance company in a set of virtual machines running on VMware vSphere. This deployment has been in place for more than a year and serves the needs of two thousand concurrent users. The end-user response times for the applications that are hosted on the virtualized systems are equal to those formerly observed in the physical implementation of the XenApp server, so users do not notice any difference between the new virtualized deployment and the previous physical system.

The decision to go with a virtualized form of XenApp running on VMware virtual infrastructure was taken for reasons of consolidation and cost reduction, as well as the proven robustness of the underlying technology. Technical implementation details of the XenApp virtual deployment are also provided in this document.
