Release Notes

Combined release notes for vSphere 4.0 CIM APIs

For the vSphere 4.0 Update 1 release, CIM release notes are included with the ESX and ESXi release notes.

VMware CIM SMASH/Server Management API

Released 21-May-2009

The CIM SMASH/Server Management API, for ESX/ESXi 4.0, features profiles compatible with the DMTF's System Management Architecture for Server Hardware (SMASH) initiative. SMASH profiles allow CIM clients to monitor system health of a managed server.

VMware CIM Storage Management API

Released 21-May-2009

The VMware CIM Storage Management API, for ESX/ESXi 4.0, features profiles compatible with the Storage Management Initiative Specification (SMI-S) of the Storage Network Industry Association. The SMI-S profiles allow CIM clients to explore the virtual machines on an ESX/ESXi host, along with associated storage resources.

VMware Support for the CIM APIs

VMware Customer Support for the CIM APIs is limited to customers who experience runtime issues with the VMware CIMOM—the CIM Object Manager that runs as a service on ESX/ESXi and responds to CIM requests. VMware does not provide application-development or debugging support, nor does it provide development-tools support. In addition, sample programs for the CIM APIs are provided without support.

For help developing applications, visit the Management API Community, or engage VMware Professional Services. Technical Alliance Program (TAP) partners should contact their Alliance Team or tapalliance@vmware.com for assistance and support.
