Introduction to the VMware vCenter Orchestrator Plug-In for Cisco UCS Manager

The VMware vCenter Orchestrator plug-in for Cisco UCS Manager enables organizations to accelerate and simplify the management of their cloud infrastructure by automating the provisioning of UCS blades for virtualization. With over 90 out-of-the-box actions and workflows, the plug-in adds management of compute hardware to vCenter Orchestrator, therefore enabling the automation of the entire physical and virtual stack. Together with the vCenter Server and vCloud Director plug-ins, the UCS Manager plug-in provides the necessary pieces to automate several use cases, including:

  • Application of a service profile to a UCS blade
  • Cloning a service profile template to a service profile
  • Service profile customization of frequently modified components
  • Import and export of service profiles from and to UCS Manager instances

The VMware vCenter Orchestrator plug-in for Cisco UCS Manager runs on VMware vCenter Orchestrator 4.1 and the subsequent update releases. The plug-in is compatible with Cisco UCS Manager 1.3 and 1.4. What's New in VMware vCenter Orchestrator Plug-In for Cisco UCS Manager 1.0.2

Version 1.0.2 of the plug-in adds support for HTTPS protocol connections to Cisco UCS Manager instances. To upgrade the plug-in, you must install version 1.0.2 on top of your existing installation. You can download version 1.0.2 from the VMware vCenter Orchestrator Plug-In for Cisco UCS Manager download page.

Configure an HTTPS Connection

To be able to connect to a Cisco UCS Manager instance through the HTTPS protocol, you must configure additional connection parameters.

Prerequisites

  • Verify that you are logged in to the Orchestrator configuration interface at http://orchestrator_server:8282.
  • Verify that you have imported the correct SSL certificate from the Network view in the Orchestrator configuration interface.

Procedure

  1. Click UCS Manager.
  2. Click New UCS Manager Host.
  3. From the Protocol drop-down menu, select HTTPS.
  4. In the Port text box, type the port number of the Cisco UCS Manger instance.
  5. In the Host text box, type the IP address or the DNS name of the Cisco UCS Manger instance.
  6. Type the credentials for the Cisco UCS Manager instance.
  7. Click Apply changes.
