Customers who have purchased VMware Fusion 4 from July 25th through September 30th, 2012 are covered by the Technology Guarantee Program for VMware Fusion and are eligible for a complimentary electronic upgrade to VMware Fusion 5:
- If you purchased VMware Fusion 4 electronically from VMware or a VMware reseller during this time period, you will automatically receive a new VMware Fusion 5 license key(s) via email before September 30, 2012. No further action is required to receive your upgrade.
- If you purchased a VMware Fusion 4 retail box through a VMware Reseller during this time period you will need to submit your license key(s) and proof of purchase online by October 31st, 2012. Please allow up to 30 days from submission to receive your complimentary electronic upgrade to VMware Fusion 5.

Customers with a valid license of VMware Fusion 3 or 4, VMware Fusion 5 or Parallels Desktop (version 7) are all eligible to upgrade to VMware Fusion 5 Professional at half the cost of a full license. Customers with an active support contract are eligible to upgrade to VMware Fusion 5 on the My VMware portal. Follow the instructions provided in this KB article.
After upgrading your license key(s), you can download VMware Fusion 5 software from the Fusion Download page.

Yes, you should first uninstall the beta version using the included Uninstall VMware Fusion function before upgrading to the final released version.
No. When you uninstall the beta version and install the final released version of VMware Fusion, virtual machines created using the beta will remain intact.
From the VMware Fusion menu, select About VMware Fusion, and the version and build number will be displayed in the "about" box.
To license VMware Fusion, simply enter a purchased serial (or license key) during product installation in the license key field. Alternatively, you can enter your serial / license key from the "VMware Fusion" drop down menu in the product. Choose "License" in the drop down menu, enter the serial / license key and choose "OK."
In order to receive the complimentary email support that is included with your license purchase, you need to ensure that the serial / license key has been registered in your My VMware account.
You must register VMware Fusion to receive complimentary email support. If you do not already have a VMware.com account, you can create an account profile and register your serial / license key in the My VMware portal by selecting Product Registration from the Products & Downloads pull down menu.
If you purchased a retail box, the license key can be found on the “registration card" inside the box.
If you purchased VMware Fusion directly from VMware (Direct Sales or Online Store) or have already registered your purchased product with VMware, you can find your serial / license key by looking it up in the My VMware portal.
- Log into the My VMware portal using your VMware.com account credentials
- Select the License Keys option in Quick Links on the left hand side or from the drop down menu under Accounts
If you already entered your serial / license key upon software installation, you can see your key from the VMware Fusion drop down menu in the product. Choose License in the drop down menu. The serial / license key will be displayed in the software licensing dialog.

Problems with registration can be caused by several factors. First, double- check your serial / license key for typographical errors. All characters that look like a "0" are a numeric "zero" and not the letter "O".
Verify that the code you are trying to register is a VMware Fusion serial number. It should be a 25-character alpha-numeric code (example: AALYG-20HVE-WHQ13-67MUP-XVMF3).
