This Page in Japanese

Under certain circumstances, VMware products display a dialog that says:

VMware internal monitor error (bug 4428)

This bug is generally due to VMware's incomplete implementation of certain advanced power management features and occurs with Windows 2000 guest operating systems.

For a workaround to this problem, please visit [this page].

Bug 4428 may occur in Windows 2000 guest operating systems when the virtual machine is idle.

Source of the Problem

There appears to be an inconsistency between Windows 2000's Advanced Power Management (APM) support and the VMware product's implementation of APM.

What You Can Do

A workaround that has been successfully applied by many users is to disable APM in the Windows 2000 guest. In order to do this, go to Control Panel > Power Options, click the APM tab, and clear the Enable Advanced Power Management Support check box. To be safe, reboot your Windows 2000 virtual machine after making the change.

If the problem persists, please notify VMware technical support by submitting an incident report.
