Compatibility Matrixes for vCenter Site Recovery Manager 5.1

Upgrade Paths

You can perform in-place upgrades of existing SRM installations to certain newer versions.

1. Go to http://partnerweb.vmware.com/comp_guide2/sim/interop_matrix.php?.
2. Click Solution Upgrade Path.
3. For Product select VMware vCenter Site Recovery Manager.

vSphere Editions

SRM 5.1.x supports the following editions of vSphere.

ESX/ESXi Server Requirements

SRM 5.1.x supports the same ESX/ESXi versions as vCenter Server. If you use vSphere Replication with SRM, vSphere Replication 5.1.x requires ESXi Server 5.0 or greater.

1. Go to http://partnerweb.vmware.com/comp_guide2/sim/interop_matrix.php?.
2. Click Solution Interoperability.
3. For Solution select VMware vCenter Site Recovery Manager.
4. For Version select Any, 5.1, or an update release.
5. For Platform/Solution select VMware ESX/ESXi.
6. Click Add.

vCenter Server Requirements

SRM 5.1 and its updates are compatible with the equivalent vCenter Server release and any preceding update releases. SRM supports the vCenter Server appliance (vCSA) on either or both of the protected and recovery sites.

3. For Solution select VMware vCenter Site Recovery Manager.
4. For Version select Any, 5.1, or an update release.
5. For Platform/Solution select VMware vCenter Server.
6. Click Add.

Host Operating System Compatibility for SRM Server

SRM Server 5.1.x runs on the same Windows host operating systems as vCenter Server.

1. Go to http://partnerweb.vmware.com/comp_guide2/search.php?testConfig=16&deviceCategory=software.
2. Select Host OS.
3. For Product Name select vCenter Server.
4. For Product Release Version select All, vCenter Server 5.1, or an update release.
5. For OS Family Name select All.
6. For Partner Name select All.
7. Click Update and View Results.

Host Operating System Compatibility for SRM Client Plug-In

The SRM plug-in for the vSphere Client runs on the same host operating systems as the vSphere Client. Localizations are supported where available.

2. Select Host OS.
3. For Product Name select vSphere Client (Windows) .
4. For Product Release Version select All, vCenter Server 5.1, or an update release.
5. For OS Family Name select All.
6. For Partner Name select All.
7. Click Update and View Results.

Supported Database Software

Regardless of the database server you are using, you must install a 64-bit database client (ODBC driver) on the SRM Server host.

SRM 5.1.x supports the same database software as vCenter Server 5.1.x. For the latest details of the databases that SRM 5.1.x supports, check the VMware Product Interoperability Matrices.

1. Go to http://partnerweb.vmware.com/comp_guide2/sim/interop_matrix.php?.
2. Select Solution/Database Interoperability.
3. For Solution, select VMware vCenter Site Recovery Manager .
4. For Version, select Any, 5.1, or an update release.
5. For Add Database, select one of the the following options:
   1. To see the full list of supported database editions, versions, and service packs, select Any.
   2. To check whether a specific database edition or version is supported, select that database. For example, select Oracle 11g Standard Edition, Release 2 [11.2.0.1]- 64-bit.
6. Click Add.

Guest Operating System Support

SRM 5.1.x supports the protection and recovery of virtual machines that run all of the guest operating systems that vSphere 5.1.x supports.

NOTE: If support for a guest operating system has been added in an update release of ESXi Server and SRM, to protect virtual machines that run those operating systems you must update ESXi Server to the corresponding update release as well as updating SRM. You must update ESXi Server on both the protected and recovery sites.

1. Go to http://www.vmware.com/resources/compatibility/search.php?deviceCategory=software.
2. Select Guest OS from the drop-down menu.
3. For Product Name select ESX/ESXi.
4. For Product Release Version select ESXi n, where n is a release of ESXi/ESX that vCenter Server 5.1.x supports.
5. To see all the supported versions of guest operating systems from an operating system vendor:
   1. For OS Family Name, select All.
   2. For Partner Name, select the operating system vendor. For example, select Red Hat.
6. To check which updates of a particular operating system is supported:
   1. For OS Family Name, select the operating system. For example, select Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3.0.
   2. For Partner Name, select All.
7. Click Update and View Results.

Guest Operating System Customization Support

While guest operating system customization works for many of the guest operating systems that vSphere 5.1.x supports, the following table lists those operating systems for which guest OS customization is officially supported with SRM 5.1.x.

NOTE: If support for IP customization of a guest operating system has been added in an update release of ESXi Server and SRM, to protect virtual machines that run those operating systems you must update ESXi Server to the corresponding update release as well as updating SRM. You must update ESXi Server on both the protected and recovery sites.

Interoperability with VMware Solutions
