This chapter describes how to create a new virtual machine by deploying a template by cloning an existing virtual machine. Both of these methods provide options to customize the new virtual machine as you create it. The options are similar to those options available when creating a virtual machine from scratch, but the method varies. This chapter does not describe the customization options. Refer to Customizing Guest Operating Systems for detailed customization information. Refer to Creating New Virtual Machines for information on creating a virtual machine from scratch.

You need a Virtual Machine Administrator role assigned to the farm where the deployed or cloned virtual machines is located to perform the activities described in this chapter.
