Description:
1. Compiere is a featreful OpenSource ERP system. It normally requires an Oracle installation which has to be licensed and takes an experienced admin to complete. There is a patch that allows installation on PostgreSQL, but this alternative is even more complicated to install as you have to patch and recompile both applications and the installation procedure is badly documented.
With this appliance, evaluating or running Compiere can be easily done for everyone. Just run the appliance, log in and you can run Compiere within seconds instead of days.
2. First Ubuntu was installed and a snapshot made. Then the tools necessary to compile PostgreSQL were installed and compilation made. Then Compiere was installed and comfigured. The completed installation was copied to an external machine and the virtual machine reset to the snapshot, so that the disk space for the applications needed at install time was free again. Then the installation was copied back into the VM. Then a the Ubuntu was cleaned up by removing all applications that were not necessary for Compiere. After that, the free hard drive space was filled with zeroes by "dd if=/dev/zero of=bla; sync; rm bla" to get better compression ratios on the VMWare image; disk shrinking was not made. The maximum memory consumption of server and client has been reduced from 512 to 256 MB. This allows to run the system on less powerful machines.
3. The installation is set to German language. Click on "Sprache" and select your desired language. Log in as user "iku" with password "iku" (all passwords are set to "iku"). Double-click on the Kompiere logo und wait. The login credentials for Compiere are already entered, so you only have to click on the button with the green tickmark. More information can be found at
