Ideosity

Ideosity, a boutique technology consultancy with large global clients, needed to ensure that client data was safely backed up and could be easily recovered by a small IT team. With the VMware vSphere Data Protection Advanced solution, data is backed up and replicated to offsite locations as an added measure of protection. Best of all, backups and replication that once took 12 hours or more can now be completed in less than three hours. Faster data protection means Ideosity can do more with existing hardware and its existing IT resources, saving time, money, and effort.

“I’ve virtualized with VMware and prefer backing up with VMware. With vSphere Data Protection Advanced, backups have gotten more sophisticated. It is cost-effective and reliable— kind of set it and forget it.”

IndonesianCloud

Virtual SAN enables IndonesianCloud to remain competitive

IndonesianCloud, a cloud service provider, part of the vCloud Air Network, focuses on delivery of enterprise class hosting services to their customers. Their customers primarily run mission critical workloads in IndonesianCloud’s three datacenter environment, which means that stability, reliability and predictability is really important.

The traditional environment they had earlier wasn’t allowing them to remain competitive in a dynamic and price sensitive market. After evaluating several different hyperconverged and software-based offerings they settled on VMware’s hyperconverged infrastructure solution, Virtual SAN. Since the Virtual SAN platform was placed into production, they have deployed over 450 new virtual machines onto their initial 12 node cluster. In addition, migration of another 600 virtual machines from one of their legacy storage platforms onto their Virtual SAN environment is underway.

"VMware Virtual SAN and hyperconverged infrastructure enabled us to reduce our overall platform cost by a staggering 70% which translated directly into savings for our customers. Beyond just direct savings we are also able to simplify how we scale our platform."

— Neil Cresswell, CEO, IndonesianCloud

Keck Medical Center of USC

Keck Medical Center of USC Sidesteps SAN Bottleneck, Launches New Data Warehouse with VMware Virtual SAN Solution

Keck Medical Center of USC needed a new data warehouse for business and medical analytics but didn't have room for the data in its conventional SAN. Seeking an alternative to the capital expense of an adequate SAN expansion, the center's IT team launched a new system using the VMware Virtual SANTM hyperconverged infrastructure solution. Business and operational benefits include swift deployment, simpler storage management, as-needed scalability, and lower cost per I/O.

"We can use commodity servers and drives to build a storage cluster for 30 percent less than the cost of similarly performing storage in a traditional SAN solution.”

"Our data center is 90 percent virtualized, and I see Virtual SAN as a very compelling storage solution to utilize for most of our virtual machines."

— Manu Mishra, Senior Infrastructure Engineer, Keck Medical Center of USC

USC’s Keck Medical Center Accelerates Virtual Machine Provisioning with VMware vRealize Automation

The IT team at USC’s Keck Medical Center was struggling to promptly fulfill new virtual infrastructure requests from its fast-growing medical research organization while also supporting the daily operations of two busy hospitals. To improve service quality and reduce administrative workloads on its engineering team, the Keck Center implemented self-serve provisioning with the VMware vRealize™ Automation™ solution. The new system has reduced fulfillment intervals from more than two days to less than one hour while liberating IT staff for higher-value activities and facilitating new research partnerships worldwide.

“I knew that vRealize Automation had the feature set we needed. I knew it would allow us to hand off resource authorization and get new virtual machines deployed with a minimum of human interaction in the process.”

— Manu Mishra, Senior Infrastructure Engineer, Keck Medical Center of USC

La Salle Primary School

La Salle Primary School, based in Hong Kong, build a mobile learning platform using VMware Virtual SAN and VMware Horizon.

La Salle Primary School is leading the way for integrating IT with teaching in Hong Kong. They are enabling every student to use mobile learning on different devices and platforms with the help of VMware virtualization solutions like VMware Horizon View and VMware Virtual SAN.

La Salle Primary School chose VMware Virtual SAN technology to centrally manage storage for their servers alongside the VMware Horizon solution to deploy virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI), saving significant hardware costs and footprint as well as the workload on internal IT and technical support staff. They now have a true VDI environment where students can smoothly and reliably access a common virtual environment and set of applications whether they are on campus computers or on their PCs and mobile devices.

“Compared with traditional server storage methods, VMware’s Virtual SAN technology can bring us higher cost efficiency, stability and ease of management.”

"We are no longer need to install required software or applications on each computer. This has in turn reduced memory and storage consumption, significantly reducing the burden on the school in terms of hardware. Equally important is that it has reduced the workload of our technical support staff and set a positive example in energy saving and sustainable development for our students.”

— Tang Mun Hon, Head of Information Technology Development Unit, La Salle Primary School

Lakeridge Health Network

Lakeridge Health is one of the largest community hospitals in Ontario, Canada, serving more than 600,000 residents of Durham Region. Consisting of three acute hospitals, one specialty hospital, and several off-site facilities, Lakeridge Health manages more than 540 inpatient beds and employs more than 4,000 staff and physicians. Lakeridge Health is coming out of a multi-year capital freeze affecting IT. By deploying VMware Horizon (with View), Lakeridge Health now offers physicians bring-your-own-device (BYOD) and new remote access capabilities. Lakeridge Health also implemented VMware vSphere to bring its data center and Meditech clinical system hardware up to date. Benefits include improved patient privacy and hospital safety; improved physician satisfaction and remote access to systems; better data center performance; and hundreds of thousands of dollars of savings in hardware costs.

“When we evaluated the systems side-by-side on value—in terms of price for functionality—there was no question that VMware was the best choice. We’re talking about hundreds of thousands of dollars of difference.”

— Colin Stairs, CIO and Chief Privacy Office

Langs Building Supplies

— Matthew Day, IT Manager, Langs Building Supplies

Large U.S. Financial Institution

A large financial institution deployed the VMware vCenter Log Insight solution on four nodes supporting 450 hosts and more than 12,000 virtual machines. The solution manages millions of log messages every day. It replaced a homegrown log management environment that was inefficient and didn’t provide adequate visibility into the organization’s reporting infrastructure. Now, with the Log Insight solution, this organization can resolve challenges quickly and spot latent problems before they cause infrastructure issues that impact critical business applications.

“vCenter Log Insight is our primary troubleshooting tool. Root-cause analyses … are 50 percent faster, just given that we don’t have to wade through as many logs to find answers.”

— Assistant Vice President of Virtualization, Large U.S. Financial Institution
