GTS Central Europe
The GTS Central Europe (GTS) Group is a leading telco operator with its own network and a provider of data center services in the Central and East European region. The group’s reach is mainly regional with dense local networks and thus offers a wide array of services in the Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary, Slovakia and Romania. GTS created a virtual data center to provide virtual hosting services for corporate clients, allowing companies to specifically and flexibly choose, allocate and move computer resources based on where they are truly needed. In less than one year after the launch of the service almost one-hundred corporate customers use GTS Group services from VMware for their virtual hosting.
„We wanted to provide companies a service that would truly help with their business. In our virtual IT environment they gain greater performance and reliability and can react very flexibly to changes in their needs; without any investment costs. It’s logical that this environment uses VMware technologies – it’s the world leader in virtualization and cloud computing.“

The upgrade went very smoothly and we are already beginning to take advantage of some of the exciting new features such as Fault Tolerance, vShield Zones, vStorage Thin Provisioning and Host Profiles. We are especially excited about Fault Tolerance because it will ensure zero downtime and zero data loss for applications most critical to the business.”
HDFC Bank Limited
HDFC Bank needed to launch hundreds of branches quickly to provide banking services to 40 million new customers from rural and regional India. The financial services company developed a ‘Branch in a VM’ concept to meet this objective and, between 2008 and 2012, opened more than 1,700 branches. The bank can now provision a new branch in less than 10 days.
"In the past it could take up to a couple of months to setup a new branch. With VMware virtualization, we can do this in under 10 days."
To improve operational efficiencies, Hertz International had a choice of either refreshing its existing infrastructure across its European locations at considerable expense, or implementing newer technologies. In addition to centralising the server estate, Hertz International wanted to simplify its complex desktop infrastructure, which constituted a considerable capital investment. Having over 4,000 PCs and laptops spread over 1,000 sites around Europe, upkeep and maintenance of these were real issue in terms of time, resource and cost. Following a review of the major offerings on the market, Hertz International decided to implement VMware View as it best suited the organisation’s needs and would easily integrate with its existing server virtualization infrastructure. It also made a decision to replace legacy desktop devices with zero client Wyse terminals.
“By virtualizing our server and desktop estate with VMware, we’ve cut costs, dramatically simplified our IT infrastructure and transformed how we support over 1000 desktops in our service centre in Dublin. We’re able to create and deliver even more innovative technology services to our users, while enhancing the experience we provide to our customers. The platform VMware has enabled us to build has given us extremely strong foundations to realise even greater benefits, as we add more and more services and extend the research of the programme internationally.”

"With our systems running in a reliable virtual infrastructure, we can continue to improve our performance and reputation, and look at ways of increasing turnover."
Hong Kong Housing Society
The Housing Society has offices throughout the city-state, and when swine flu reached Hong Kong in 2009, the organization realized it needed an alternative location to ensure some employees could still access vital tenancy information and critical services should there be an infectious disease epidemic or natural disaster. The organization virtualized its data center five years ago on VMware vSphere to consolidate its sprawling physical infrastructure and has achieved 94 percent virtualization. All mission critical applications are now virtualized, including its iHousing system for tenancy management, Microsoft Exchange Server, and Oracle JD Edwards financial application. The organization worked with VMware to design and implement a virtual desktop infrastructure solution delivered by VMware Horizon View.
"A virtual desktop solution delivers greater flexibility to our employees because the data follows them rather than tying them to a single location. We had a strong relationship with VMware and existing expertise in the vSphere server virtualization software, and so it made good business sense to virtualize our desktops with VMware."
Housing Finance Bank
In this video, Tirus Mutoru, Head of IT for Housing Finance Bank, outlines how his team have benefited from virtualization and the support from HP and VMware partners. His team has been able to dramatically reduce the time taken to provision servers – from 6 weeks to one hour.
“It was quite interesting because I was using both the Hyper-V and also VMware, but then based on experience on ease of use; me and my team finally settled on VMware.”
Diversified Global Optics Leader Based in Tokyo Virtualizes SAP to Reduce Costs, Increase Flexibility
“We successfully migrated eight production systems at the same time, which might be considered risky. But VMware software is known for its stability and it is fully supported by SAP. It would have been more risky not to virtualize.”
Hungarian National Bank (Magyar Nemzeti Bank)
Az MNB szervervirtualizációs projektje a VMware ESX Server 3.5-ös verziójával indult, de a platform legújabb, 4.0-s verzióra történő frissítése a HP-val kötött support szerződésnek is része. A virtualizált szerverek felügyeletére a jegybank a VMware vCenter megoldását vezette be. Az MNB a hardvererőforrások átlagosan 70 százalékos kihasználását tűzte ki célul, ami a projekt eredményeként a gyakorlatban megvalósult. A jegybank a VMware virtualizációs megoldásával ötödére csökkentette a szervergépek számát, amivel arányosan csökkent a kiszolgálók hely- és a hűtésigénye is.
“Due to the extra importance of the national bank’s role, a virtualisation solution already well-proven in the market and providing high standards of support and having adequate references in Hungary could be considered only. VMware’s virtualisation technology met these strict requirements.”

Ideosity, a boutique technology consultancy with large global clients, needed to ensure that client data was safely backed up and could be easily recovered by a small IT team. With the VMware vSphere Data Protection Advanced solution, data is backed up and replicated to offsite locations as an added measure of protection. Best of all, backups and replication that once took 12 hours or more can now be completed in less than three hours. Faster data protection means Ideosity can do more with existing hardware and its existing IT resources, saving time, money, and effort.
“I’ve virtualized with VMware and prefer backing up with VMware. With vSphere Data Protection Advanced, backups have gotten more sophisticated. It is cost-effective and reliable— kind of set it and forget it.”
