Quintana says, “We think hybrid cloud is the next step in digital transformation. However, customers require consistent operations and security between their on-prem and cloud environments, which can be a real challenge in private and public clouds. VMware products enable Wetcom to deliver solutions that bring our customers a better experience for hybrid cloud in terms of security, efficiency and agility.”
Wetcom proved this point for one of its customers in the digital payment processing industry, Prisma Medios de Pago. This leading Latin American fintech company is known for its responsive, secure and reliable services, processing more than 7 billion transactions per year. So, when COVID-19 suddenly forced the company’s employees to work from home, Prisma Medios de Pago needed to adapt its technology infrastructure—and fast.
“The COVID-19 pandemic accelerated adoption of hybrid cloud solutions because remote workers need secure, high-performance access to business applications in their company’s data center or the cloud,” Quintana points out. “We worked with VMware and Prisma Medios de Pago to bring a remote access solution to employees and contractors in a highly secure way.”
This customer’s situation is a case in point where companies able to quickly adapt to change gain new capabilities that improve operational security, efficiency and agility for the long term.
Secure, Compliant and Flexible Remote Access Solution
Initially, Prisma Medios de Pago set up a virtual private network (VPN) as a fast, easy and inexpensive way to connect remote workers. But some users had problems with device compatibility issues, and the VPN also revealed security and compliance issues for critical applications. Prisma Medios de Pago then turned to its trusted partner, Wetcom.
After evaluating the customer’s business requirements, Wetcom’s advisory and professional services team recommended a virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) based on VMware Horizon. This approach brought the solution Prisma Medios de Pago needed: secure digital workspaces for employee remote access, compliant with the company’s business applications and compatible with any device.
Importantly, Prisma Medios de Pago was able to maintain business performance throughout the pandemic, meeting its service-level agreements, avoiding business disruption, and preserving its reputation for excellence with customers across Latin America. As an added bonus, Prisma Medios de Pago has seen a 30 percent reduction in operating expenses and 10 percent lower capital expenditures since adopting the VMware Horizon solution.

With ongoing professional services and support from Wetcom, the VDI solution will continue to deliver customer value well beyond the pandemic, providing a flexible, secure way for Prisma Medios de Pago to assure business continuity while scaling its business to consistently meet growing customer demands. In fact, the company now supports a bring-your-own-device (BYOD) strategy, enabled by VMware Horizon, supporting employee productivity whether working on-site or remotely.
Following on the success of the VDI solution, Prisma Medios de Pago is now working with Wetcom to deploy VMware Cloud Foundation as part of its ongoing hybrid cloud strategy. Quintana notes, “With VMware Horizon VDI and now, VMware Cloud Foundation, we’ve created an environment for our customer where apps and access work together in a faster, more secure and agile way.”
