The VxRail Appliance is a hyper converged infrastructure appliance, jointly developed by EMC/VCE and VMware. It combines VMware's hyper-converged software with extended lifecycle management, a configurable hardware platform, extended data services, and unified support from EMC to provide a turnkey, scalable appliance that is ideal for deployment hyper-converged infrastructure.

The VxRail Appliance provides a simple, cost-effective hyper-converged solution for a wide variety of applications and workloads. With the VxRail Appliance, IT organizations can start small and easily scale capacity and performance by non-disruptively adding appliances to the cluster without the investment or up-front planning required with traditional infrastructure. The VxRail Appliance seamlessly integrates into customers’ existing VMware data centers, workflows, and tools.

Software-Defined Data Center (SDDC)

EMC and VMware share a joint vision to deliver an SDDC architecture that abstracts, pools, automates and manages all IT resources in an automated and software-defined manner. The orchestration of data center services is automated with VMware vCloud Suite across all software-defined components: compute, storage, and network. Our approach combines the leader in software-defined storage with the leader in virtualization and cloud computing. EMC ViPR, the leading software-defined storage product, is an extensible software platform that abstracts storage with all its unique capabilities, from physical arrays into a single pool of virtual storage.  Storage administrators then create virtual storage arrays that they can manage at the virtual layer according to automated policies. Data services, such as block, file, and object data services, run on top of the platform and leverage the unique attributes of the virtual storage pools and arrays. EMC Software-Defined Storage provides specific VMware integrations with interfaces into the VMware vStorage APIs (VAAI, VASA, VADP) across the EMC storage portfolio ( VMAX Family, VNX Series, Isilon, XtremIO, Data Domain, Avamar). EMC ViPR will integrate with VMware vRealize Automation and vRealize Operations to automate provisioning and improve performance, capacity and configuration management across the applications, servers, networks and storage environments.

Cloud Infrastructure

EMC and VMware offer three paths to your cloud infrastructure: build your own with best-of-breed components, EMC VSPEX, and VCE Vblock.Building your own cloud offers unmatched flexibility, but requires a significant amount of expertise, overhead and time to deploy and manage. EMC VSPEX is a proven reference architecture offering choice to customers. Because it is validated to work, it takes cycles out of design, testing, and deployment. Finally, VCE Vblock converged infrastructure, a collaboration between EMC, VMware, and Cisco, is a pre-integrated, pre-engineered system that offers simplicity though a single point of management and single point of support and offers the fastest time to deployment.
