VMware Horizon is a modern platform for running and delivering virtual desktops and apps across the hybrid cloud. For administrators, this means desktop and app management can be simplified, automated and made more secure. For users, it provides a consistent experience across devices and locations.

VMware Horizon Client is software that allows you to connect your VMware Horizon virtual desktop to a device of choice, giving you on-the-go access from any location. Clients are available for Windows, Mac, iOS, Linux, Chrome and Android and may be downloaded from my.vmware.com.

VMware Horizon allows you to set up and manage a virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI). This is achieved by creating and provisioning desktop pools for centralized management. For more information on setting up VDI using Horizon, see the Horizon Documentation Center.

VMware Horizon runs remote desktops and applications in the data center or the cloud and delivers them to employees as a managed service. Deployment options include on-premises, VMware Cloud on AWS, and many other partner clouds. Read the Tech Zone article for more information.

VMware Horizon is not a virtual private network (VPN). It uses a unified access gateway (UAG) to allow secure remote access to Horizon. It does support remote access to desktops and apps via a  VPN, but it's generally not necessary to use a VPN with a UAG. For more information, read the blog post.
