VMware Marketplace Highlights from 2021

2021 was a monumental year for the VMware Marketplace team. We grew our VMware Marketplace community by thousands of users who created hundreds of thousands of subscriptions. Moreover, we worked hard to add new capabilities and resources on the Marketplace to make it easier for our users to access and use solutions that they need to build, run, and manage applications. Here’s a quick recap of what we achieved over the past year:

Purchase Solutions On VMware Marketplace
We added the ability to purchase solutions via credit card directly from VMware Marketplace – making it the single location to discover, try, purchase, and deploy VMware ecosystem solutions! As the next step, we plan to expand our commerce capabilities to include other payment methods and more.

Automated Validations
We introduced Platform Validation, which automatically validates publisher solutions on pre-selected target platforms during the publish process and with the release of a new version of the underlying platform. For our users, this guarantees confidence and security, as they are always able to deploy proven, validated solutions from the Marketplace.

Video Resources
Over the past year, we created several demo videos to help our users deploy solutions from VMware Marketplace to platforms such as VMware Cloud Director, VMware Cloud, and Tanzu Kubernetes Grid. Together with our Documentation, these videos prove to be an invaluable resource for our thousands of users as they utilize our catalog of solutions.

Catch Us on Tanzu TV
In the past few months, we joined Tanzu thought leaders and developer advocates - Nate Schutta, Tiffany Jernigan, and Michael Cote - to discuss and demonstrate how the Marketplace can help developers easily build and deploy applications. On Tanzu Tuesday, we discussed new packaging formats such as Flux and Carvel for Kubeapps, now available on VMware Marketplace. On Between Chair and Keyboard, we chatted about AI and how to build services with developers in mind. We also talked about how VMware Marketplace helps to simplify the software supply chain on Tanzu Talk. Plus, we added resources such as guides and demos on the Tanzu Developer Center.

A hearty thank you to all our customers and partners for supporting VMware Marketplace and making this past year so exciting!

What’s New on VMware Marketplace

Transitioning to 2022, we have already been hard at work at VMware Marketplace:

Tanzu Kubernetes Grid Validation Now Extends to CNCF Solutions
We recently announced that all solutions that have successfully gone through the Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF) certification process are automatically validated on VMware Tanzu Kubernetes Grid. The CNCF certifies Kubernetes solutions through the Certified Kubernetes Conformance Program, which provides organizations using Kubernetes with the benefits of consistency, timely updates, and confirmability – in other words, confidence in Kubernetes interoperability. CNCF compliance for all vendors of Kubernetes distributions involves running a scan through Sonobuoy – a VMware-maintained project - on clusters as a compliance audit step.

This important step demonstrates our commitment to CNCF standards and compliance to those standards, while expanding the set of interoperable and compatible ecosystem solutions available to our VMware Tanzu customers.

CNCF solutions will be eligible to receive the Partner Ready for VMware Tanzu badge and can now be published to the VMware Marketplace.
