In August 2019, VMware acquired Bitfusion, which delivers a software platform that uncouples specific physical resources from the servers they are attached to in the environment. The best example is the ability to share GPUs in a virtualized infrastructure as a pool of resources rather than isolated resources per server.
This acquisition will help VMware bring a cloud operational model to an emerging part of the data center and bridge the gap between the traditional, CPU only infrastructure and those that can leverage hardware acceleration.
