Growing Sustainably

Barden Produce sows the seeds of business success with water, sunlight, and VMware vCloud Air hybrid cloud computing. The Australian grower, marketer, and distributor of vegetables and herbs sought IT agility that would allow it to launch new operations quickly and improve worker efficiency. Additionally, Barden wanted to minimize data center overhead to help fund growth.

Gaining Business Agility

Barden operates farms, packaging plants, and distribution hubs in Queensland and New South Wales. After reviewing operating processes, stakeholders determined that IT agility would help make Barden’s decentralized structure more efficient. With the robust and secure VMware vCloud Air platform, Barden can scale IT easily as it adds farms and facilities.

“vCloud Air delivers, basically, our infrastructure in the cloud. For us, it's all web-browser based. We can connect in wherever we are and start working on that solution, and then we plug that back into our business via a managed data network connection that's provided by Telstra into the vCloud Air data center in Melbourne."

Seamless User Experiences

Running software as a service (SaaS) applications on vCloud Air dramatically reduces Barden’s infrastructure requirements while it increases worker productivity. Additionally, SaaS provides employees with the same kinds of seamless technology experiences they’re used to from commercial websites and social media. Following a pilot program, Barden migrated 100% of its IT workload to VMware vCloud Air.

“Being able to deliver solutions that look, feel, and work as simply and effectively as some of the applications they (employees) use at home, like Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram, is really important to us. And delivering that experience is only possible with the right infrastructure that sits behind it.”
