Metlac Group produces coatings and inks used to protect and decorate metal packaging. The company’s 80,000 square-meter production site is located in Bosco Marengo, Italy, and features the latest in industrial automation technology. Metlac wanted to enhance employee productivity by improving user experiences and supporting mobility. With this in mind, the company embarked on an end-to-end virtualization initiative, deploying VMware Horizon View to deliver virtual desktops and applications, and VMware AirWatch for highly reliable mobile device management.
For years, Metlac’s mission-critical systems, including robotics and automation, have run on virtualized servers using VMware solutions. The company added to its VMware footprint by virtualizing more than 100 desktops using VMware Horizon View. This gives employees the flexibility to access their desktops remotely, from wherever they are, on the device of their choice.
VMware AirWatch has given Metlac’s employees—especially its sales personnel—a consistent experience across devices from any location, with secure access to the company’s systems and applications. With the ability to remotely deploy applications and track and manage mobile devices, Metlac’s IT team has improved efficiency and offers employees faster access to powerful services. As new mobile solutions are rolled out, costs continue to decline for even further savings.
"We have embraced the virtualization philosophy and we are adopting it for all levels, from server systems to messaging and collaboration applications, from management and production systems to mobility and BYOD."
