IDC White Paper: Do You Need a Maestro to Orchestrate Your Telco Cloud?

IDC Market Note: Do you need a Maestro to Orchestrate Your Telco Cloud?

According to IDC, orchestration and automation will be key to deploy and monetize new services across multiple verticals using network function virtualization (NFV).

At VMworld Europe 2019, VMware unveiled Project Maestro – a new integrated orchestration and automation platform compliant with ETSI MANO specifications.

This IDC Market Note provides their take on the announcement made at VMWorld Europe 2019 from a telco standpoint. IDC believes VMware’s announcement of Project Maestro and other announcements made at the event address many of the pain points raised by telecom operators in their 5G and telco cloud journeys, including:

  • Painful testing and validation processes that make onboarding and changes difficult and slow down time to market
  • High opex costs due to integration tasks required by complex and sometimes non-interoperable platforms
  • High NFV capex costs due to heterogeneous platforms requiring expensive development costs
  • Slow deployments of cloud-native NFV architectures due to a complex and fragmented MANO and NFVI landscape
